Well-written with great visuals, a piece on the scope of Greenland's ice sheets and what's affecting them, and how research is done on them.
Hopefulyl something will come out from paris this December...
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesAbout as likely as the East Antarctic Ice Shield disappearing within the next ten years.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThigns are kinda different now, technologically speaking, than they were back in Copenhaagen 2009.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesMass gains of Antarctic Ice Sheet greater than losses: "A new study says that an increase in Antarctic snow accumulation that began 10,000 years ago is currently adding enough ice to the continent to outweigh the increased losses from its thinning glaciers."
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.that article doesn't ask it, but does the purported ice gain in Antarctica offset the ice loss in other parts of the world?
And does it account for the potential for ice to be lost in the "swiss cheese" way of hidden water flows that is known to be occurring on Greenland?
Human-caused climate change increased the severity of many extreme events in 2014: "Human activities, such as greenhouse gas emissions and land use, influenced specific extreme weather and climate events in 2014, including tropical cyclones in the central Pacific, heavy rainfall in Europe, drought in East Africa, and stifling heat waves in Australia, Asia, and South America, according to a new report."
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. No substantive evidence for 'pause' in global warming: "There is no substantive evidence for a 'pause' or 'hiatus' in global warming and the use of those terms is therefore inaccurate, new research has found."
Algae could be a new green power source: "To limit climate change, experts say that we need to reach carbon neutrality by the end of this century at the latest. To achieve that goal, our dependence on fossil fuels must be reversed. But what energy source will take its place? Researchers report that they just might have the answer: algae."
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Anybody surprised by that first item?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot really.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Nope. Not in the least: the background trends were way too against the whole "dodged a bullet" ethos that view was pumping out.
The timer is still ticking. :\
I am completely unsurprised. It's evidently only a question of time until a repeat of 2003 (or worse 1540) I suspect.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGlobal growth in carbon dioxide emissions stagnates: "After a decade of rapid growth in global carbon dioxide emissions, which increased at an average annual rate of 4%, much smaller increases were registered in 2012 (0.8%), 2013 (1.5%) and 2014 (0.5%). In 2014, when the emissions growth was almost at a standstill, the world's economy continued to grow by 3%. The trend over the last three years thus sends an encouraging signal on the decoupling of carbon dioxide emissions from global economic growth. However, it is still too early to confirm a positive global trend. For instance India, with its emerging economy and large population, increased its emissions by 7.8% and became the fourth largest emitter globally."
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Global warming will be faster than expected: "Global warming will progress faster than what was previously believed. The reason is that greenhouse gas emissions that arise naturally are also affected by increased temperatures. This has been confirmed in a new study that measures natural methane emissions."
2015 likely to be warmest on record, 2011-2015 warmest five year period: "The global average surface temperature in 2015 is likely to be the warmest on record and to reach the symbolic and significant milestone of 1° Celsius above the pre-industrial era. This is due to a combination of a strong El Niño and human-induced global warming."
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. The United Nations have started the Sustainable Innovation Forum, 2015, in Paris, France.
This forum mentions the following bits
Building on year-round work from Climate Action and the UN Environment Programme, the 2 day Forum will convene cross-sector participants from business, Government, finance, UN, NGO and civil society to create an unparalleled opportunity to bolster business innovation and bring scale to the emerging green economy.
SIF15 Highlights:
- 750+ attendees - the largest number of global stakeholders at any commercially-inclusive side event at COP21
- International attendance – meet decision makers from across the globe with delegates spanning 43 countries at SIF14
- Over 80 world class speakers including country Ministers, industry CE Os and international thought leaders
- Interactive discussion panels throughout the event, allowing for in-depth debate via audience Q&A and polls
- Workshops and co-located events to maximise content and networking opportunities throughout the two day
And loo! The Eiffel Tower has a Costa Rican phrase, celebrating the fact Costa Rica has been running for 255 days on nothing but renewable energy sources.
Huzzah, or something.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesIs that the same thing as the climate talks?
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Yes.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesYes, COP 21 is the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
China issues a red alert for the first time ever over pollution issues.
First of many, China. First of many.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesYeah, the Chinese smog is freaky.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanArnold Schwarzenegger is at the climate change summit in Paris, in support of alternative energy. Maybe this is what it'll take for the deniers to get on the right side, a celebrity with Arnold's stature.
Doubt it'll do anything other than make them think of Arnold as brainwashed or a sellout or something.
Say, on that Paris conference, is there already something working?

Unless I'm missing the joke.

Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. - Douglas Adams
