We all know about The Problem with Licensed Games and how alot of the time licensed games tend to be absolute shit, this is a thread for discussing licensed games you actually enjoyed. If we have a thread for good educational games, why not good licensed games? Surprisingly enough, I actually found Ed Edd n' Eddy the Mis-Edventures for the Gamecube, PS 2, and Xbox to be quite an enjoyable and fun to play game. I liked how the music remained faithful to the cartoon and I loved exploring Peach Creek in a wide-open 3D world. Each of the three Ed's possessed their own special ability. Double D had a slingshot, Eddy could throw stink bombs and had a yoyo, and Ed was the big strong guy who could head-butt through everything, pick things up, and smash things with his face. It's a pretty fun game if you're a fan of the show, but if you know nothing about the show or have never watched it before, you probably shouldn't be playing this game. More surprisingly good licensed games would probably have to be Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom and Spongebob the movie the game.

Battle for Bikini Bottom was fantastic. Fuck I had like 20+ hours in that game as a kid.

Also, the WALL*E DS game.

And of course, Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie on PS 2 and X-Box. That's one of the best games ever made, period.

The three Alien Vs Predator FPS games. The last one has a bit of a Broken Base, but it certainly doesn't suck.

From my experience, most do indeed suck. The No Mercy and Day of Reckoning series is probably one of the best in video games though.

Some of the Dragon Ball games are respectable, Budokai 3 and Super Sonic Warriors 2 come to mind. How annoying that all of the latter's sequel hooks will never be followed up on.

Shrek Super Slam and Shrek 2's adventure game were amazing. When I was ten, we used to all group up and play both games for hours on end.

I'm not a huge fan of it, but Duck Tales is a solid platformer.

Also, I personally enjoyed Spiderman 2 when I played it.

Speaking of Spiderman, I loved the PS1 Spidey games. Haven't played them in a while, but they were pretty solid.

I guess we could go... wherever we please.

I think the last licensed game I bought was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was actually a halfway decent hack-and-slash brawler. It mostly suffered from having to follow the movie's "plot."

Transformers: War for Cybertron is also a pretty good 3PS.

The article about the Problem doesn't say that licensing has any effect on the quality of a game, but that big licenses tend to attract Shovelware. There are many good licensed games out there but Sturgeon's Law applies to every license.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay & Assault On Dark Athena...

Would Turok count since those games are based on comics?

The entire Megami Tensei franchise was spun off from a novel. Does that count?

The Turok game is very different from the original comic, maybe but probably not. Unless the comics changed to the automatic slinging Amerindian before the games came.

[up]The early 90's comic. Not the 50's comic.

I haven't read the whole series yet, but the first game does use villains from the comic like The Longhunter from Level 3 and The Campaigner, the final boss.

The second and third game seemed to pull from the third comic series (things like Adon and the humanoid dinosaurs), but I don't know how much they used from the comic (or vice-versa, since the third series ran alongside the games).

Heres the problem guys. A game based off a franchise is not inherently bad (KOTOR or Riddick for example)

The reason for this tropes is GAMES BASED OFF MOVIES.

They are rushed to be made in time for a movie. You can't count something that was made with a franchise but had all the time in the world.
