  • Tracks 2,3,6,8,13, and 17 are sung by AKINO from bless4
  • Track 7 is sung by Yui Makino
  • Track 10 is sung by Aoi Tada
  • Track 12 is sung by Holy Angel Academy Men's Choir (...or, at least, that's what I think it translates to)
  • Track 15 is sung by AKINO&AIKI from bless4
  • Track 16 is a Shrade piano piece. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it's the piece he wrote when he died.
  • Track 17 is the song that played in the final episode when Amata did his last charge, and played until we see Mykage looking for a new body.
  • Track 18 is what I presume to be a sort of Evol version of the original series' first opening.

Ok, 11/18 of the tracks are, admittedly, stuff that has already released, but I still think July 25 can't come soon enough! I can't wait for ZERO! And Genesis of Love has piqued my interest.

I thought AE wasn't bad...as long as you didn't think too much about it. The music was awesome, the plot was funny, the fights and animation were really good and the secondary characters had personalities and were interesting.

Mikono: bland. I'll refrain from saying anything, because I really don't like her.

Amata: standard shounen hero, a bit annoying. I found it funny how he talked about going against destiny...only to end up exactly as destiny wanted.

Zessi Kagura: I really didn't see it as their ending up together. On the last group photo we see Zessica still depressed and at the beach it's clear she still loves Amada -_- While I normally don't like Pair the Spares, I would have preferred that over her ending up sad and alone while pinning over Amada (who doesn't deserve it) *sighs*

About Zessikagura: I've heard people claim Pair the Spares on that, but really, there's nothing there unless you want to see it, although it's very much there if you want to see it. So you can't really accuse the show of Pair the Spares, that is, as always, the fandom's doing.

This series, started out really good, but it ended up really bad especially if you try to compare it to its predecessor.

The Pollon retcon, was a horrible addition to the story that did nothing but take away from the series, and was one of the things that made the love triangle unbearable. Funnily enough this little retconned plotline had originally been dropped in Sousei by its writer because he realized that it was distracting and it only took away from the love story and the story itself in general.

Amata and Mikono were also really bad as main characters, because of their blandness, but in this case it really wasn't characters at fault but the writers, for not exploring the characters. Because there were interesting things about the characters that story just didn't take any time to explore them. While Mikono and Amata did have natural chemistry it was just wasted because it didn't make sense on why they couldn't move forward, with the story not providing any reasons for it. Even Sousei as weird and wacky and wacky as it was did make sense in terms of characterization and you saw enough with the everyone so that you not only knew who the main characters were but also the side characters as well, and there was no question about who was the main characters.

I've seen plenty of series before that you are not supposed to take seriously and I don't, I also know that Aquarion is one of those series. However, that doesn't excuse failure on a basic storytelling level that is present in Evol.

You know, I've heard this numerous times, and I just find it strange because when I saw it, I didn't get that impression at all.

The way I saw it, when the photo was taken, Amata and Mikono weren't there, as at the time, nobody knew what happened to them, and Zessica was saddened by this, which is why she was so happy (like everybody else) when they showed up at the end.

I also took the absence of our Official Couple as the reason Kagura wasn't in the photo; he was waiting for them to return. That's why Zessica joined him afterwards.

[up] You have good points, but I still believe she liked Amata in the end. The way she interacted with Kagura on the beach + the way she looked at Amada when he came back still makes me think that. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Dear writers, you can get people to like your fictional couples without stupid complicated love polygons.

Andy/Mix is cute. Yunona/Jin is adorable (WHY DID JIN HAVE TO DIE?!). And Cayenne/Shrade made me root for them even though all through out I was too aware and deliberately ignoring their Ho Yay moments.

Even Amata-Kagura's (very easy on the eyes) parents got me into shippy mood despite I thought that they should have waited until they found a "responsible enough" guardian for their son.

Meanwhile, I want to hide under a pile of pillows whenever the STUPID love polygon shows up on the screen, most especially whenever Zessica is shown feeling tormented over Amata.

Trying (desperately) to not dislike Amata and Mikono. I actually have to actively imagine Amata as cute adorable flying doggie - this is probably the first time I have to resort to beastiality to assist myself with an Official Couple.

I actually feel "Dawwwww! That's so adorable" if it's Celiane/Pollon, but feeling wanting to break something if it's Amata/Mikono.

And my dislike of the ship is not even because I want Amata to end up with Zessica or Mikono with Kagura - it's simply because I'm just NOT interested in their precious love and just feel sick of it whenever it pops up in the narrative.

Hell! I even think that it's good for the Amata/Mikono that the guy's the reincarnation of an adorable winged puppy cause it's way harder to feel angry at a cute doggie.

How do you think things would have gone differently if Amata was taken to Altair and Kagura was the one left behind?

Ok, from what I've heard, there is a director's cut of the final episode that apparently has the following changes (copy/pasted from Kakkou's post on Anime Suki Forums, with some spoiler marks added):

  • OP 2 is kept in.
  • Cayenne gets his Dark Wedding vision thing again when Mykages talks about taking Mikono's body becoming God of blah blah blah, this time Mykage's image replaces Kagura's.
  • Cayenne, Shrade, Andy, MIX and Crea get their last episode gattai scenes.
  • Extended scene before Crea uses her teleport powers: One of Ancient AQ's hands grows freaking swords on it's fingers and Shrade's spirit pilots Geparda to finish that hand off. Shrade then says goodbye and turns into butterflies.
  • Another one of Shrade's piano tunes plays as BGM due to the extended time.
  • New scene just as Mykage takes out Amata, Kagura and Zessica. Yunoha tries to reach for her handle and is supported by... Tama. Turns out Jin's soul has been in Tama the whole time.
  • Full version of Zero starts playing around that scene.
  • Yunoha, Jin, Crea and Cayenne re-gattai into that four legged Aquarion with the cannons and shoots Jin & Yunoha's barrier attack to stop Mykage's attack on EVOL.
  • Amata's naked-in-space scene is longer because Yunoha, Jin, Shrade, Cayenne & Crea also say his name.
  • Aquarion LOVE has a new paint job. It's now mostly silver/metallic-ish. They made a mistake on that during the TV broadcast because even the TV version on disc has the new corrected colours.
  • Full version of Genesis of Aquarion starts to play during Mykage & Fudou's scene. The song no longer abruptly cuts to the last lines when Amata & Mikono emerge from LOVE at the end.
  • Gekkou Symphonia returns as the final ED. Crea's illustration is added this time.

It doesn't change the fact that the WHOLE series went full blown retard that's unretconnable, unless retconned.

I never imagined I'd be coming back to this place.

There's an OVA concerning Alternate World Shenanigans where Aquarion Evol vs original Aquarion gang and reincarnation AU versions of Yunoha and Jin trying to meet.

Here.

Also the new Aquarion anime Aquarion Logos.

THERE'S GOING TO BE A THIRD AQUARION ANIME?! AND IT'S COMING OUT THIS YEAR?!

I'd say a much larger number of people aren't nearly so enthusiastic or optimistic about another Aquarion series after EVOL, specifically all the stupidity in its second half. But maybe this one will pull it together. Maybe.

And I find very amusing that they've acknowledged that Jin and Yunoha were the pretty much the only thing most people ended up caring about in EVOL, considerably more than its own main characters.

The only thing I didn't like about EVOL were the last few episodes after MIX got kidnapped. I thought the show was pretty good even if it had a few issues up until then. -Shrug- I wonder how they'll handle the reincarnation drama this time since Mykage got what he wanted and there's really nobody evil left over to reincarnate this time.

Looks like it has little to do with either of the previous series based on the setting and Aquarion looking completely different now (Evol was kind of based off of Solar. Logos looks nothing like either.) And except for the main girl possibly being Zessica reincarnation everyone else looks to be totally new characters (but that could be a trick, as Mikono was)

It's funny that Amata/Apollo/Kagura incarnation is seemingly nowhere to be found. I guess Evol and the doggie twist really killed the interest in the character.

The doggie twist hurt the core premise of the show enough that I'm surprised they're bothering to continue it. Either Kawamori has far more clout than I'm giving him credit for, toy sales are far more important than discs, or they need another experimental vehicle for an upcoming Macross.

Its still utterly retarded, granted. Not as utterly retarded as theming season 2 entirely around the possibility for amata to defy fate, then proceeding to follow fate to a T for his limpwristed damsel in distress Mikono.

OmegaRadiance Since: Jun, 2011
#599: Mar 22nd 2015 at 7:56:41 PM

Everything I've heard made it clear the idea was dropped in season 1, though the hints were still there. Only later did they decide to bring it back into Evol.

That's why the OVA specifically had Apollo as Apollonius with no hints of Pollon and the love between Apollo and Silvia and their past lives destroyed the world with Aquarion, and that Reika was Scorpius.

Judging by the fan reaction it certainly did. "They planned it all along" doesn't make it any less of a dumb decision.

Edit: Preview of Logos looks interesting, at least. An Aquarion that's not made up of three sub-units? And it looks like it might be heading back towards a setting similar to that of Genesis.
