Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Anyway, to get back on Marvel, who do you think is likely to be revived or stay dead in Endgame?
You can say many, many things about Garth Ennis, but Hitman is a fucking masterpiece.

Everyone who got dusted will be back. Otherwise I don't know. Well, I am pretty sure that Heimdall is dead for good.
It's been noted that while Garth Ennis very openly dislikes superheroes in general, he tends to be respectful of the Superman character.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd yet he’s still hired to write superhero comics.
It is a bit of an oddity.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I guess it's because executives realize there's a market demand for stories like the ones Ennis writes. Some "fans" of superhero comics like seeing the piss being taken out of costumed superheroes.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd I think not everything he’s written is fucking shite.
I think he’s one of those writers who has LOW lows but pretty damn HIGH highs on occasion or once in a blue moon.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."And if you are talking about The Boys, nobody hired him to write The Boys, that's his own original creation. And his thinking was "What if I did to superheroes the same thing I did to religion."

> Everyone who got dusted will be back
Imagine if the reset button had the effect of bringing back those who died instead of being dusted
New theme music also a boxIt’s either that or lose Gamora and Vision entirely. Doubt a Got G 3 without la Saldana would be worth watching. She’s the team’s moral compass as shown in Infinity War.

I’ve heard rumors or maybe just people speculating based on meta knowledge that everyone who died is being stored in the soul gem
And Infinity Wars, which was made to tie into Infinity War somewhat, made a big to do about the soul gem
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell the Soul Stone required a sacrifice for some reason, so Gamora will definitely have some ties with that.
Makes you wonder if the other stones required a sacrifice as well before they were taken from their original resting place.

Uni catThey did and when Endgame ends, all those people will come back to life, which will be the origin story for the Eternals….
Something I was reminded of through that Stucky discussion.
I don't know where I had read about it (maybe Scans Daily?) but I learned recently that MCU!Bucky's backstory is actually based on this character named Arnold Roth, a gay, Jewish friend of Steve.
As with MCU!Bucky, Roth started out as a childhood friend with this Big Brother Mentor Bully Hunter role, and then the roles were later reversed, once Steve got super-powers.
Incidentally, I know that there are only so many plots in comic books and villains brainwashing people to be evil is a very, very, very common one, but although I had assumed that Zemo's plotline in Civil War was inspired by part of the Brubacker run where Zemo tried to frame Bucky (already Captain America at this point), I see from the linked article that Zemo also brainwashed and manipulated Roth in the comics.
I find it really interesting though, as while the Ganke/Ned thing is really well known, this is pretty obscure. Up until coming across the story, I had just figured that the changes to MCU!Bucky where a pretty natural decision to avoid having him start out as Steve's (Poisonous Friend) Kid Sidekick (insert Doctor Strange comment about Peter as Tony's Ward here). Which is definitely part of it. But it was interesting to learn that the specific characterization of Bucky in the MCU is inspired by a pre-existing comics character.
Of course, the fact that the inspiration character was gay doesn't mean that Bucky is necessarily gay or bi, but I think knowing that does give another layer of understanding to his character.

So, 3 hour, 2 minute runtime for Endgame.
Can we bring back intermissions for this film?
I've heard that they're being brought back.
Coupled with bafflement by non-Americans that they're not standard.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI am not sure if the number is official yet. But I would totally watch a three hour long movie.
I remember seeing Return of the King in theaters, but I cannot recall leaving in the middle of it. Either way, I can sit through 3 hours of Avengers.
Me too, as long as I don't drink a large soda with my snacks.
And I always buy a lot of snacks — I make a point of skipping a meal before watching movies.
What can I say, movie theatre snacks are a guilty pleasure. The hot dogs, the popcorn, the nachos, the fried chicken strips, the candy...

Disgusted, but not surprisedFirst time watching Infinity War, I thought it’d have another 20 minutes when it ended, so I’m prepared, I suppose.
I had to take a break during ROTK. Not that I wasn't going to watch it a dozen times on DVD, and the same goes with Endgame.
Guess I'll go on a low-soda diet before the show.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I'd rather have an interval. As I've said before, 3 hours is fine if used well; will judge a bit harsher on stuff that could have been cut.
I can handle myself without bathroom break. I did so watching Infinity War and i can probably do it here.
Uni catSince a lot of theatres over here will just throw in a break anyway, I would prefer a planned interval.
I give the first one a pass, minus the ending. I would categorize it as "good enough" but not "great".
