Depends on the factor of how fast he is.

Death Battle Curb Stomp Battle cleanup still going on in case anyone wanted to chime in on that.

I think the best solution is to decide which battles are curbstomps and delete the rest.

It is correct that he realizes what's going on AFTER the lightning leaves Azula's finger, and succesfully makes the jump before it gets past him. So he isn't just reacting to her (otherwise long) windup

See here

Obvious counterpoint is Zuko can't dodge an arrow so figure that one out.

I'll give 66% for Todoroki to win. The 33% remaining is DB deciding that Zuko is so fast Todoroki can't possibly prevent him from closing into melee and stabbing him.

Obviously being buffed by Sozin's Comet allows Zuko to see faster.

Wait, no, that wouldn't affect his running speed. Actually, what happened was that Azula's lightning was in the midst of an emotional breakdown during this fight because its mother didn't hug it enough, so the lightning dragged its feet across the battlefield. This allowed Zuko to react in time.

I've always wondered is there like a speed difference between natural lightning and artificial(?) lightning.

Yeah, generally unless there is evidence to suggest Magical lightning is comparable to real lightning, magic lightning is generally assumed to not be as fast.

[up]It's all the same to Death Battle. Even then, I think it helps a lot if you know where the Lightning is coming from and/or know where it's heading towards.

is it more impressive if someone dodge lightning in a rain storm than someone shooting it? The former seems like it would be because your not expecting it, but then again, who in their right mind would expect a random person capable of shooting lightning.

It's one of my issues with Deathbattle, to treat phenomenons as their physical equivalent even when they are not. Particularly when they describe black holes, who clearly dont behave as such on screen. But also things going way faster than they obviously are.

I'm reminded of the battle between Starlight & A-Train in The Boys.

Starlight can shoot light blasts but with A-Train with his superspeed defeated her so people assume that means hes faster than light because he dodged her light blasts. But its more like he was just fast enough to avoid her hands pointing at him so he doesn't need to be faster than light but faster than someone's ability to aim.

They literally scaled down the lightning hands in Leo vs. Jason but ok.

I mean is a issue of writer using the wrong name for their atacks, you cant said "this writer call is atack a black hole but is not really a black hole so you cant treat it like one".

You definitely can. The issue is that people will debate to hell and back about it.

They didn't scale down the lightning hands. They came out with Leo going mach 166.

I mean is a issue of writer using the wrong name for their atacks, you cant said "this writer call is atack a black hole but is not really a black hole so you cant treat it like one".

You absolutely can do that. Doing the opposite turns a lot of feats into meaningless boasts. "He's strong enough to tank a black hole, but ya know, the not threatening kind"

I'm just going to throw this out there

Ice King could totally beat Todoroki and Zuko.

That goes without saying, isn't his cryomancy like... country level on top of being able to create animate golems? And potentially even planet level in some realities?

Main things he suffers from as a combatant are losing his powers if he loses the crown... and also being a bumbling idiot most of the time. But he's definitely one of the stronger cryomancers out there.

Jumping in front of Azula's lighting feels like an odd choice for a feat, since it's a Taking the Bullet scene. In the same way we're not supposed to conclude that everyone in an action movie who jumps in front of a bullet as it's fired to save someone else is literally capable of moving as fast as Superman, we're not really supposed to perceive Zuko as having lightning speed in the moment vs the moment being cinematic.

But on the other hand this is Death Battle, so there's a case to be made that they have to take those cinematic moments seriously.

Is not like death battles have being decide sometimes for some weird tiny details that suddenly change the battle.

Scorpion and shao khan come to this: the first one won because in theory he is inmortal, even when the lore never use that and the second because in theory he eat souls so he is protect agaisnt bison atacks, which is weird becuase very often absorving souls is tsung shitick, not khan.

I 100% agree.

But not understanding concepts like Rule of Drama, or figures of speech, is sort of Deathbattle's bread and butter.

EDIT: And I get why they do it, it just leads to weirdness like their evaluation of Optimus.

He made a giant ice golem/mecha in one episode, but I don't know about covering the whole planet. There was that miniseries where all of the elements went berserk, and I think he had his own "dominion" or something.

Someone brought up Zuko's movement speed before as a plus for him but that's no good. I should point out that Todoroki can do that....ice slide manoeuvre that Robert Drake made famous.

.....does that move not have a trope page? It has to have a trope page right?

Depends how fast Todoroki slides, vs how fast Deathbattle thinks Zuko is.

If they go the way they did Leo for example, they'll prolly say Zuko is going at Mach 116. Which I doubt is how fast Todoroki skates.

Zuko’s height is 147 px = 1.535 meters

1 px is 0.010 meters

Distance between Zuko and Ozai is 323 px = 3.23 meters

Timeframe is 32.812 microseconds

Distance Zuko’s arm moved is 80 px = 0.835 meters

Low End speed of Zuko = Mach 74 (High Hypersonic+)

And also

Time Frame: 39.973 microseconds

Distance Zuko moved is 293.82 px = 4.113 meters

Zuko’s speed = Mach 299 (Massively Hypersonic)

Impressive feats considering it's a Iroh video.

Distance between Zuko and Ozai is 323 px = 3.23 meters

That's very close considering Ozai isn't in the video at all.

And why should tropes matter to Death Battle? Dramatic or not, if a character does this or that, it’s to be accounted for.
