Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Nope, probably because there is outright criminality there. This is standard practice when running for high office, you vet yourself, ID the skeletons in your closet, and develop responses to preempt your opponents.
Granted, its really hard to counter one of the skeletons in your closet being "multiple incidents of sexual assault".
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I see.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyCurrently watching the Drunken Peasants make fun of Alex Jones. And it just occurred to me: he'd be far more entertaining if they set up a Jim Henson puppet version of him at his desk and he'd dub over it with his cartoonishly gruff voice. It'd get more people watching Info Wars, guaranteed.
The thing is with Trump is that the skeletons in his closet may be real.
Keep Rolling OnNew polls are coming out, Clinton is up the only question is how much of an edge she has over Trump.
One interesting stat is that enthusiasm among Clinton supporters is way up, to 83% (above Trump). So much for her not energizing the base, though how much of that eagerness is driven by how awful Trump is can't be said.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Trump is even attacking Saturday Night Live, saying it should be canceled and that it's an example of the media rigging the election.
I wonder if we will see a drop in the number of people becoming political analysts following this campaign.
If my job was to predict what will happen in this Trump v Clinton framework, I would probably be on the verge of suicide.
x4 It's also possible that Trump's rhetoric about the election being rigged is demoralizing some of his base. They may not want to waste their day voting in a "rigged" election.

Disgusted, but not surprisedDoesn't SNL make fun of Hillary too, though?
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyObviously, those scheming Jews running the media are playing for keeps.

yes, but they play her as an evil mastermind psudo-robot, incapable of connecting to the HOO-MAN. Trump, they just play up his idiocy and/or call out his idiocy.
also, more importantly, Hillary can take a joke/doesn't have skin as thin as potato chips.

I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see? They played the Jaws theme as Trump stalked around Clinton
Ok, THAT sounds funny.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyPence says GOP ticket will 'absolutely' accept vote outcome. He certainly seems like he's trying to frame himself as the more reasonable of the two.
On a more serious note, North Carolina GOP headquarters firebombed. Fortunately, it doesn't seem like anyone was injured, but this is exactly the sort of thing we don't want happening now.
Oh God! Natural light!God part of me deep down is happy but I'm smart enough to know this isn't very productive.
Oh really when?Dude!
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyIt was more than just a firebombing. From above:
The inside of the Orange County Republican Party headquarters in Hillsborough was severely damaged and an adjacent building was marked with spray painted graffiti reading “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else,” The Charlotte Observer reported.
Not a good sign, whoever gets attacked. How long before someone takes something out of the IRA playbook?
Garcon, you would condone terrorist attacks on Republicans, wouldn't you?

Keep Rolling OnSounds like the thing that could potential make the state lean Trump out of a misguidedly blaming Clinton or Democrats as a whole.
A bit too far don't you think man?

No, I won't condone it. Laws and civility have to be enforced and as cathartic as it is stuff like this is unproductive to fixing the problems we have with Republicans and the country.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it hard to feel any real sympathy though. This election has made me real bitter.

Oh really when?He didn't that say he condoned it, just that part of him didn't feel bad about it.
Pence is blatantly trying to set up himself up for a presidential run in 2020 or 2024. Not sure if he'd ever be able to shake the Trump baggage though.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.@144410: ... I love that metaphor. Someone give a prize to whoever invented it.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Even from a simply pragmatic standpoint (in addition to the moral one), this has to be condemned. We are winning, Trump can face a full refutation of his vileness on November 8. This is not helping.
For those curious about the SNL sketch, here's a non-region locked version.

Not Three Laws compliant.
Trump doesn't even let his staff research his past?
