It's an improvement. Maybe?

EDIT: Never mind.

As for the suggestion, agree with Willbyr, the version of herself at the front doesn't look very perturbed.

??

On her knees, arms crossed, hands clutching her arms, head bowed, eyes closed, mouth open.

How does that not equal body language that says: "something is wrong"?

I mean, can you show me an image of what you think shows someone with a broken heart?

The style of the picture is definitely an improvement. The fact that she did have a happy life somewhere in the past has to be present in the picture somehow, otherwise it doesn't depict the trope.

[up][up] Something with a sad face more like this, for example. The girl in your suggestion doesn't have a look saying "I'm hurt", it looks more like "oh, my breasts are bigger today" (especially with the arm pose she has). If she had an actual sad face, it would have been a strong contender due to the rest of the pic's composition.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The pic I showed here is NOT meant as a suggestion pic for this trope. She lacks the "show the tragic backstory" bit.

[up] Yeah, that's pretty much the exact same reaction I had...the background is good, but her face and body posture look sexualized more than an expression of pain.

Yeah, the Raven one was too clean, too shiney, too sexual, and she looks more like she's contemplating her chest size than hurting.

Argh, I don't know if I really agree with pulling a picture that was actually picked by image pickin so quickly like that, nor do I think the picture was merely JAFAAC, but...oh well.

The Raven picture is OK...it certainly shows the troubled backstory but I wish the expression was...different. It doesn't seem distant or upset enough to me. (And the artstyle was giving me some Uncanny Valley vibes, so that doesn't help.)

Would this picture from Megatokyo work? (Ironically she's not the trope namer, but I think the image is a decent example.) I don't know if there's enough to suggest the "tragic backstory" there, but the run-down church hints at something, and the "broken wings" illustrate the metaphor well.

Current project: Cleaning up the Chrono Crusade examples one at a time. God help me.

Try this one as his link didn't work well and was low quality.

Well, Megatokyo is the Trope Namer (although that character isn't), but I really doubt that would look good shrunk.

*plays with the pic*

It won't...even cropped down to just around her and the wing things, at around 350 px her expression is almost unseeable.

I'm not crazy about the pulled image, but it's not JAFAAC. It illustrates some of the aspects, which people deemed sufficient.

Indifferent on the replacement. But I can live with that one, too.

I don't join these discussions often, but I like the original pic. The black and white-ness of the picture works well, and she definitely looks thousand-yard-stare-ey to me.

And for the record, I don't know who this character is. All I know is apparently she's from Fruits Basket.

I had no clue who the person in the original person was. I've never seen the series. Despite that, I was able to instantly understand how it related to this trope, I felt it was a strong picture, and conveyed things very well. Maybe it's just me, but it seems Just A Face And A Caption is getting thrown around at times when it shouldn't be for the most tiny of reasons.

Well, I think the Raven one does depict the trope, but reading facial expressions is a difficult thing that people don't always agree on.

I think as a whole the picture says: "Something bad happened to her"

If the original is disallowed then I think Raven is the best suggested replacement so far.

If we can get some more suggestions we can have a crowner.

Hey,I just started making an account here and this is my first post grin

But anyway, let's bring talk about this topic again. So, has it all been decided that Raven will be the new image for broken bird?

Not yet, not enough consensus. We really don't have that many options, so maybe a crowner should be hooked.

If we don't have enough good options a crowner is useless. I played with the image in post 34 :

Wow, my brain melted there for a second. I meant to explain "if we had better options, maybe a crowner would be hooked".

However, you're free to point and laugh.

[up] That shares the same problem as many of the images, in that it portrays "depressed girl" not "depressed girl with a veneer of cold cynicism/Jerkassery".

I can't believe we just pulled this.

We just had a thread about this and the consensus was overwhelmingly in favor of keeping it.
