So, where are said spoilers?
Oh, and if this turns out like that last anime series that had it's script finished ahead of time, the statements that they'll diverge from each other is a lie designed to keep people reading/watching despite knowing how thing will turn out
Spoilers up to episode nine can be found over here (there's also the relationship chart from the book floating somewhere on the blog).
Hmm, knowing Ikuhara he could be lying when he said it was going to diverge, he did also say something about the story being hard to understand and fans hating it.

If it has a plot then I have something to say about it!Huh, they even find out about it the same way
Okay, I finally watched episode one.
...What.
On one hand, my brain is nowhere near as full of penguinfuck as I was assured it would be. On the other... what?
It's been fun.Episode 3 was pretty funny. I just love those three penguins. It's like 90% of the awesomeness of this show comes from Funny Background Event.
Murrl LustFatM..."Fabulous Max"?
Even after 3 episodes I have no idea where this series is going...but I do know that apple doesn't go with curry! Curry needs MEAT!

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."There was meat in that curry, as well as apple.
My important observation for this episode is that the japanese word for apple is ringo, for anyone who didn't notice the connection there.
It's interesting, though, the while the contents of Ringo's diary technically came true, it didn't happen anything like how the wording would lead one to believe. That either implies that it could, theoretically, be changed, or that the diary was intentionally written misleadingly.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."The way she was talking about it at the end, it sounded like she was making it come true. Though there wasn't any control over the cat, so maybe not

The show rather beat us over the head with that symbolism.

If Utena is anything to go by, I would suspect it's the latter, but the possibility of changing fate is one of the key themes of this anime, so we will see.

My standard Anime Theme song game variant rules: [Censored by ACTA]My original assumption in episode 2 was just that it was her plan that she was following through. This episode throws that idea for a loop with the cat thing. Not that that's too surprising. I think either option would fit into a "fighting fate" theme, depending on which side she's supposed to be on. Actively creating your own fate is a way of fighting it, sort of.
I couldn't help but laugh when Ringo said keikaku doori. I'm definitely getting a Mirai Nikki vibe from Ringo's diary.

ITT the most fascinating aspect of the show is the mutual distrust between the Takakura brothers and the penguin hat. I'd like to see the two deliberately stall their search for the Penguin Drum since there isn't exactly any guarantee that the hat is going to keep Himari alive even after it gets what it wants, but sadly I don't think that this is that kind of anime.
Please be gentle with me.I think that they don't really consider themselves to be in a position to do anything but comply, which I can understand. The hat has some pretty weird powers.
Just out of curiousity, who else believes that the penguins should get their own show?
Follow me on tumblr! They should have something like Mini-Wakfu: a series of silly 2-minute asides that don't grow old because it's just a series of silly 2-minute asides.
i. hear. a. sound.Ummm... okay, so the diary can either predict the future or change it. Wonderful.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialIt would fit with the themes so far if it predicts an unchangeable future, but the ED is about Screwing Destiny, so who knows?
On penguins own show: Maybe a pre/sequal where they are assigned to help another family obtain another MacGuffin?

You mean something like Tachikoma Days ? I'd watch that...
Ringo's pretty amazing (and creepy too). A pot of curry dunked over her head and looking no worse for wear.
Incidentally cowcostume Himari.
Someone on Live Journal was the first to point this out, but the person who voiced Ringo's loving father in that brief flashback? is apparently known much better as a rather different type of father.

So it's Adaptation Decay, which means now I'll be compelled to read the novels for the sake of canonicity?
