The important part is the missing pupils.
But you're right, they're not as blatant as they could be. Maybe someone could get a pic of the swirly eyes effect?
I'm convinced that our modern day analogues to ancient scholars are comedians. -0dd1The no glint in the eyes is the key part of the trope which the pic shows well.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!It lacks pupils.
But... Is that visual shorthand universal, though?
(Also: what a chin.)
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Didn't we have one with the swirly eyes? Or was that another trope?
Anyway, I support changing the picture when we find a good one.

Fight smart, not fair.Man, that second one would be great if animated pics were allowed. I'd be happy with a still from it.
Yeah, but a still would still have the effect.
Is that an actual example though? I think I've seen swirly eyes before to convey the same meaning, but I'm not sure.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.I've been drawing all the other Mind Control tropes, may as well take a stab at this one, too..
The swirly eyes are mostly used only for comedy, though, and never during scenes that are even remotely supposed to be serious. Not to mention that it is often also used for 'dizzy', 'sick' or just 'crazy'.
The Pupil-less eyes used for the trope image are much more specifically used for mindcontrol, and the image itself shows them just fine.
Besides, the description of mind control eyes is right next to it, right? I quote "In anime, their irises become dull, flat disks of their base color without any detail, highlights, reflections or even pupils. Obviously heavy eyelids surmount the altered eyes, and sometimes drift into a half-closed position."
A trope image should complement the trope description by showing a visual example, and the current image does so just fine.
Here's what the description on Wingding Eyes says about Mind-Control Eyes:
* Deep shaded irises with no pupils to speak of: Drugged or under mind control. The character is being forced to act against their will.
I added that line onto the page... oh hell I don't even remember how long ago. Anyways, It would probably be best to show a "Normal state" and "Mind Controled State" to show this trope. I've got some anime listed on the examples, so I'll search through for suitable examples.
Oh, looks like Fast Eddie just pulled the picture.
I'm glad the examples on the page were so specific as to what episode to find this example from. This is from episode 8 of Ah My Goddess. A before and after picture of Keiichi in his normal state of mind, and again when he's under the influence of a mind-control drug.

Good as well, I'd say. Perhaps a bit smaller, though.
Is there any way to brighten the second image? I can just barely tell he's missing his pupils.
My problem with that is that the images look different in a weird way.
Fight smart, not fair.Unfortunately, The "mind control" image takes place at night. I figured that might be an issue someone might bring up here. I don't know how to brighten up pictures though. Doesn't help that Keiichi has brown eyes instead of something more noticeable either.
There are other series I can search through for examples though.

Does it have to be dulled out eyes? If swirly is acceptable then a screencap from these two clips from Invader Zim, "Rise of the Zitboy" may work.
Swirly is used for dizzy and confused far far more than it's used for mind control so that could be confusing.
However I am not opposed to having more than one image showing the two types as long as we state that most swirly eyes are not Mind-Control Eyes.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!The full list is on Wing Ding Eyes.
Someday we need to divide that up by symbol.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I have an idea. Take a still of an Anime Character's face. Anybody will do. Then Photoshop the image so the Anime character has Mind-Control Eyes.
Oh I could give ya good ones that are Not an example of actual mind control.... in SEED mode from Gundam SEED.[1]◊ [2]◊ (its listed on the page that its the same style though.)
Then there is the Glowy Mind-Control Eyes of Code Geass [3]◊
More Glowy mind control eyes from Gundam00 [4]◊

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!And then there is this epic one [1]◊. (Not An Example although she is trying to channel spirits to give her good luck charm more luck.)

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!That "blank eyes" effect is not hard to do. What about we get one normal shot and just photoshop the weird eyes in for the "after" picture?
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.I like the idea of a collage a lot.
Fight smart, not fair. This trope covers the blank variety, the swirly variety, the concentric circles variety, and any other eye-based visual effects that indicate mind control or hypnotism. If we could get a nice collage that shows multiple varieties, that'd be nice.
Rhymes with "Protracted."
At least to me, they just look like fairly standard anime eyes. Maybe a little wider than normal, but not...mind-controlly.
