New page, new update.

The billboard at the Warner Bros. studio has been updated to advertise the Looney Tunes Cartoons campaign!

For the sake of starting a conversation, since it's been established as a WB movie, how would you guys feel about having one of these new Looney Tunes shorts being shown in front of Pokémon Detective Pikachu?

It would certainly be another reason to see it!

[up] It just feels like a beneficial thing for several parties. We have...

  • The first Pokémon-themed movie to have a wide theatrical release since Pokémon 3, from 17 years ago.
  • And this new campaign (or project? Not sure what the official term is) to bring back the Looney Tunes in full view after being shunted in shows suffering from virtually nonexistent advertising.
  • And I'll bet anything that there's a niche who are like " 'Member when we had Pokémon and something to do with Looney Tunes in the same space as each other? Yeah, I 'member." (I assume this scenario occurred at some point in 1999?)

I know it would give me another reason to watch that movie! smile

The first Pokemon-themed movie to be in live-action, yet it is based on a game that's a spin-off from the main ones and features a talking Pikachu with a drastically different voice and personality, taking place in America, and is a crime mystery. I'm sure that's what every kid was wishing for for 25 years.

[up] Not only will it be the first Pokemon movie in live-action, but it'll also be the first video game movie based on a Nintendo property since 1993's Super Mario Bros. movie, which is probably something Nintendo fans have been looking forward to in 26 years (because the movie is releasing in 2019).

So I guess the pressure's rather high...

Anyway! Fun Looney Tunes fact: Bugs in the billboard is wearing yellow gloves, which he hasn't worn since his second animated appearance "Elmer's Pet Rabbit" in 1941.

They better effin do a tribute to Robin Williams in the Pokemon movie, or at least a dedication to him. He expressed interest in playing someone in a live-action Pokemon movie when he was alive.

Ironically, Tom Ruegger has said that the Pokemon craze killed any kind of existing WB cartoon that had Looney Tunes-style comedy back in the day.

Eh, Kellner is no longer working at Warner Bros, so there probably won't be any decisions as bad as that, at least at WB Animation.

[up][up] Tom Ruegger said that, and that was with the caveat that Pokemon was cheap and didn't cost much money (being made in Japan) and the WB cartoons were homegrown, expensive and often didn't perform the way the network wanted them to.

But he is right; Pokemon was largely the death blow to WB's animation renaissance of the 90s.

Bringing back Looney Tunes to the hour plus long big screen with the character perhaps best known for working best with short, rapid fire gags?

Well hope they make it work. An Airplane! style Looney Tunes movie would be fun.

[up] The implication in the title that they’re blaming ACME and not the coyote’s perseverance does make me wonder.

1. Whenever I hear anything about a new Looney Tunes movie being made that focuses on one or two of the characters when it's after 2004, 100% of the time it never gets made! Convince me that this will be different.

2. Shouldn't it be Coyote Vs. Road Runner?

3. "Most slapstick potential". See this is why it's evident that Hollywood keeps thinking animation is for kids. The Coyote and Road Runner cartoons had no dialogue or story, so the writers can assume that they'll haev it easy with a silly, no-brainer script that will appeal to the Minion crowd.

It'll be interesting to see how they carry a feature-length movie with Wile E. as the protagonist, considering the obvious. Color me legit curious.

He's not always a mime...

Also, I don't know where the heroic part comes in.

Silent Protagonist is more accurate.

Being a carnivore really starts looking bad when the animal you are hunting has close to human intelligence.

I am amazed this You Tube video have yet to be posted here until now.

Basically the above video is an animation collab where the animators recreate (in their own interpretations) scenes from the classic and very mememy cartoon, The Dover Boys. Its pretty funny and weird just like the cartoon it is recreating

For a long time now, the Looney Tunes characters were very prominent in Six Flags advertising and commercials until Mr. Six existed. They are still at the parks but why do I get the feeling kids these day's only exposure to the characters is at the parks near the kid areas? Especially since Bugs Bunny served as the parks mascot for a while now.

Hopefully the new Looney Tunes shorts coming in the future will finally bring these characters back to the spotlight again.

Mr. Six is the name of the old man that was seen dancing in mid 2000's Six Flags commercials. I remember before Mr. Six existed. The Looney Tunes characters served as the official mascots for the Six Flags parks and appeared in commercials starting in the 1980's.

They eventually got Demoted to Extra in the 2010's due to Six Flags wanting to appeal for an older audience. This also explains why Six Flags these days is aiming for an older demographic by focusing their ads more on the roller coasters and other thrill rides. While the older commercials focuses Bugs Bugs and others since they previously aimed at child and the family audience. I remember seeing old Six Flags commercials focusing more on the Looney Tunes characters when it played a lot on Cartoon Network around the early 2000's. Mainly 2002 since I remember the Six Flags website was promoting the then upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo Movie.

So since I never heard of Mr. Six for the good part of like 10 years, maybe he DIDN'T replace the Looney Tunes at Six Flags.

Well at least Michigan Adventures still use the Peanuts as their mascot for their theme park.

. . . I still don’t understand how the hell the Peanuts in anyways relate to the state of Michigan or a water park for that matter.

Also now that I think about how come Warner Bros does not have a Studio Name Park like Disney (Disneyland, Disneyworld) and Universal (Universial Studios). Kind of weird considering all the properties under its (and Turner) banner:
