Really? I personally liked it but I could've sworn people disliked it because of how long it was.

I loved it but never got far in it because of an apparent Game-Breaking Bug that could delete your save file.

I only found out about that bug after I finished it. And IIRC it wasn't just that the bug could delete your save file for that game, it was that it could delete other save files on that memory card. But I never encountered that issue.

I bought a PS 2 for Soul Calibur 3... and then years later after I sold that console, I bought a PS 2 Slim to play those games again. SC 3 was great times, including that CAS story.

That only problem occurs whenever I play the final chapter for Soul Chronicles. So I had to Youtube the ending.

I also found out about the bug only after playing the game for a long, long time, and never ran into it myself. The trigger for that bug was apparently easy to stumble on for some players, but also easy to miss depending on others, just depending on tendencies.

@Known Unknown well lucky you, VI has something simillar to it. You create a character and explore the world ina unique story that takes place in the actual canon of the game, and going through it actually unlocks bonus chapters of the main characters as well. It even has a lot of easter eggs like Arthur vs Mitsurugi, meeting some of the other named side characters like Lyla, and even some of seigfried's friends from Schwarzwind.

Yep, the expanded stories are really fun. Pretty much everyone has backstory expanded, and other characters to interact with, and sometimes you even interact with those minor characters independently of the main characters. For example, Talim has an older cousin named Plata, who can play a role in her story, but if you do bonus missions during Libra of Soul, you meet Plata long before you ever meet Talim (if you meet Talim at all... I'm still slowly working my way through Libra of Soul).

Setsuka is no longer an unlikeable Satellite Character to Mitsurugi, but a sweet, independent character finding her place in the world.

Even friggin Voldo gets a sympathetic light!

Of course, maybe you already knew all this. I'm just gushing about the love the game shows for the characters.

Huh. I may not watch through all the videos, but someone uploaded a ton of Libra of Souls missions to Youtube!

It might be my bias speaking, but I really do firmly believe in the last decade Soul Calibur VI had the best story mode.

I went from hating Raphael to liking him as a future villain & Yoshimitsu went from being a likable goofball to an extremely likable character. VI did a lot fleshed out these characters. It was like the best of both Story & Arcade Mode.

Hah.

If they put this much effort into V, maybe they wouldn't have had to wipe Patrokles and Pyrrha out of existence.

V was flawed from the start, since it took for granted how much we actually like the series' characters, including Talim, the Koreans, Sophitia... V just felt like it was treating characters as functions.

I do remember them even saying that....or was that Marvel vs Capcom Infinite?

I'm not against shaking up the status quo, but SCIV left a lot to be desired when it came to giving anyone closure and the timeskip absolutely reeked of Men Get Old, Women Get Replaced. So yeah, it was flawed from the start.

I appreciate the guts it takes to do a Time Skip but only that.

Honestly, IV is doing legwork for the entire fucking canon, lets be real. The fact that it took until this game to even see for ourselves what the beserk Kilik looked like is kinda ludicrous since it was a huge part of his character arc trying to contain the evil within.

And dont think for a second that we've seen the last of pat and pyhrra. If they are willing to make even Soul Calibur Legends canon, im sure V stuff will be revisted once this new timeline continues ironing it the series past. Weve already seen evidence of this with the huge Viola foreshadowing

[up][up]I didn't know that trope had a name! Man Namco fighting games are crazy. And on a whim, I looked up how old Lidia from Tekken is, since I was disappointed by how youthful they made the fictional Prime Minister of Poland look. The wiki translation of the official site says she became PM at 29. 5 years younger than the youngest currently serving state leader. That would also put her as one of the youngest non-royal state leaders in the last 120 years of world history.

[up]Assuming Cassandra doesn't have them name their child something else. Or worse, she tells them what would happen and they don't believe her as a Cassandra Truth... But I think this new timeline is more hopeful than that. something gives me that feeling.

Viola always made me laugh out loud because she debuted at the same time as Zwei and while her mystic object was a glowing basketball he got a huge fucking teleporting werewolf moon stand thing.

And while she seemed to have gone Squishy Wizard in order to control it Zwei was still a melee monster.

It doesn't matter much in actual gameplay of course, tier lists gonna tier list, but it really feels like they where designed for seperate games and then they wound up in the same adventuring party.

[up] TBH 29 is still older than most fighting game girls are allowed to get. While they where all resurrected recently SNK had a habit of killing off any KOF women that approached 25.

Regarding the SC3 bug, I seem to recall that it was prone to triggering when data preceding it in the memory card's index was altered too much? I had SC3 as the first game on my memory card back in the day, and I don't recall ever having that problem occur.

I haven't looked into all of that in years, so I might be missing details, but that's what I remember.

Eh, it's not that similar. It's an RPG CAS mode, yeah, but it's designed more after a traditional rpg and doesn't have the same tabletop/tactics feel that the III mode had.

I'm working my way through 6's story modes. A couple of days ago I used one of the free mercenaries for the first time, and I found myself getting angry at how useless they are.

"You're five levels higher than her and you laughably outrange her. DO SOMETHING!"

I was level 48 and found myself doing an optional mission against 3 consecutive level 50 characters, with a weapon I wasn't fully familiar with, so I wanted to use a level 55 merc to take out at least one of the opponents. More often than not, he'd just stand around not doing anything, or do so little damage the first enemy would heal it back by the time I went in. Eventually I just got it done.

It still bums me out that so much was cut from Soul Calibur V story wise to the point that the special edition artbook had exclusive lore and more than the base game could even dream of having.

How would Lexia and Xiba develop after realizing they were siblings? What was Viola's quest? would Aeon be disgusted with himself after gaining more of his humanity? So many lost questions...

And of course, poor phyrra and Pat...to this day they remain the scapegoats of scv.

I still remain firm that Pyrhha is the better protagonist & she's way too much flak. Patrokolos I won't defend other than he still deserves a 2nd chance.

Maybe we'll be lucky & those cut story content from V will be recycled & used in VII.

That is, if we even get a VII. I mean, I'd like to be proven wrong, I really would, but with Okubo's departure the series' future is looking grim imo... then again, it could just be me being my usual cynical self. Ignore me.
