Not really sure how good it would do to put any of my toons except Ayu up, IDK if I've really added anything new enough to be worthwhile...

It would allow us to leave the old thread completely behind, and have the whole repository of OCs here.

I think that's a lot of good.

I make video games! Or plan to, anyway.

Well I guess I'll redo them sometime then but I'll admit it's not a very high priority ATM.

Whoa, open to publishing? Okay...

Not everything about Hikari is set in stone, and I'm open to suggestions for her.

Here's some basic stuff for now (not an official write-up):

Name: Hikari Natsukaze

Appearance: Dark Skinned Blonde*

, wavy hair to shoulders, wears a red summer dress, a straw hat, sandals, and often has sunglasses perched on her forehead (sometimes wears them).

Danmaku: themed around weather, particularly different types of storms. Game-wise, can be stage 4 (spellcards change depending on player character), 5, or even a final or Extra boss, though that's not necessary. Some spellcards feature strong winds that push around the player.

She lives at a lake somewhere in Gensokyo. Since the forest surrounding the lake is constantly besieged by storms, few people go to see her, so she gets bored if she stays there too long. Thus, she may start up a weather incident or go out and hang out at the human village.

Stuff in my intro for her still stands.

Formal write-up to come this weekend.

(On a side note, writing all this on an iPhone isn't exactly easy...)

So, should I link that and call Hikari published, or...

I'm pretty sure he was saying he was going to do a longer writeup when he wasn't on an iPhone, but wanted to give some info to tide us over until he could. So I'd say no.

Yeah, something like that. Though it's more an issue of time and properly gathering my thoughts. Weekdays are busy days for me...

My first thought: Scarlet Weather Rhapsody / Hisoutensoku. You know, the weather system? Like she'd have a special move and/or a spell card that does something different depending on what the weather's currently set to.

That, or she forces the weather into whatever she likes. Like a spellcard for Typhoon, another for Drizzle, another for Tempest, etc.

Harbinger of Storms and Sunshine
Hikari Natsukaze

Appearance: Dark Skinned Blonde (due to extreme tanning), wavy hair to shoulders, wears a red summer dress, a straw hat, sandals, and often has sunglasses perched on her forehead, which she sometimes dons.

Species: Youkai
Ability: power to manipulate weather

She is a youkai of weather. Due to her liking summer over all other seasons, she mainly deals with weather encountered during the summer seasons, such as sunshine, rainstorms, thunderstorms and even typhoons. As such, her power is quite great. Her power can extend to cover the entirety of Gensokyo, but due to being friendly and rather laid-back, she prefers controlling weather over a small area. In addition to controlling weather herself, she also watches over the many rain fairies that are found around Gensokyo.

Her home is deep inside a forest in Gensokyo. This forest is always besieged by storms, so few visit her at her home. If they do make it there, they find a lake that looks like a sea and a place that looks much like a tropical island. This is, of course, just Hikari's power. This is the only place where tropical fruits like bananas and pineapples can be grown, so Hikari grows them here and delivers them to the human village afterwards. She often visits the village, as she would otherwise get bored and lonely due to the lack of visitors to her home.

She can be described as having a sunny disposition. Almost constantly cheerful, she enjoys being with humans and youkai, and is often seen hanging around the human village chatting with people and accepting challenges. When she feels particularly in the mood for a fight, she starts up a weather incident to invite others to try to exterminate her. She absolutely loves ice cream, and is often seen carrying some around.

Tropes associated with Hikari:

  • Blow You Away: Many of her spellcards involve wind that blows the player around.
  • Genki Girl
  • Glasses Pull: After Yukari mentioned something about CSI and The Who to her, Hikari will sometimes hide her sunglasses, make a pun, then pull them out, put them on, and say the punchline. Where the ensuing "YEEEAAAAHHHH" comes from, no one knows, but some suspect Yukari.
  • Mundane Utility: Uses her weather powers to grow tropical fruits for Gensokyo. Also, she manipulates ice-based weather for only one reason: to make ice cream.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Ice cream

Spellcards (not all of these necessarily need to appear in a single game; these are just spellcard ideas I have at the moment for her)

  • Sunshine Sign "Heat Wave": For her "Sunshine Sign" cards, she makes the screen go bright, which impedes visibility somewhat. This particular spellcard involves wavy sunlight "lasers" that refract at specific points.
  • Sunshine Sign "Solar Energy": Miniature suns (like the ones in Utsuho's nonspells) are fired, while solid lasers occasionally spread out from Hikari, Non-Directional Laser-style.
  • Sunshine Sign "Fox's Wedding": Dodging raindrops during a brightened screen.
  • Sunshine Sign "Magnifying Glass": While dodging danmaku, also watch out for sunlight rays aimed at your position.
  • Thunder Sign "Rainbow in the Dark": Hikari's "Thunder Sign" cards feature "lightning lasers" that trace out a somewhat jagged path, and then there is a flash of lightning which causes the lightning itself to materialize, and afterwards spread out as bullets. For this spell, a rainbow made of colored danmaku forms before the lightning strikes, and when it does, the rainbow disperses throughout the screen.
  • Thunder Sign "Lightning Rod": The lightning tracers aim for your position in this one, meaning misdirection is important in order to avoid being overwhelmed.
  • Thunder Sign "Torpedo": A harder version of the above card, this time the lightning tracer actually follows you around (note that traced lightning cannot hurt you until the lightning actually strikes).
  • Thunder Sign "Black Lightning": A near-constant assault of lightning combined with danmaku.
  • Tempest Sign "Trade Winds": "Tempest Sign" cards feature the winds that will blow your character about. The winds are shown by faint lines that won't hurt your character but indicate which way the wind is blowing. In this card, danmaku rain straight down at first, but then the winds start blowing, first from the left, then from the right, blowing about the rain at the same time.
  • Tempest Sign "Eye of the Storm": The eye of a hurricane is a safe spot. Problem is getting there, as circular winds will blow you about along with danmaku. Also, the storm occasionally disperses and forms up elsewhere.
  • Tempest Sign "Headwind": Strong winds push you towards the bottom of the screen as both aimed and non-aimed danmaku are thrown at you.
  • Clouds Over Gensokyo: A special spellcard involving clouds. The screen will be bright everywhere except under the clouds, but the clouds will spawn dense rain danmaku and lightning, and do not block the mini suns that are being thrown about either. Also, winds will push you about and move the clouds at the same time, and the clouds move more quickly from the wind than you do.
  • Gensokyo's Tempest: A spellcard for if Hikari is a final or Extra boss. Hikari is in the center of the screen, while winds blow in a circular motion around her. She launches rain danmaku that gets blown by the wind, mini-suns that do not, and lightning that can wall you off if you try circling Hikari.

Bingo Kukuxmushu - The Belligerent Acid

"Gensokyo is what you get when you get a drunken clown with a fetish for colored orbs flying about and an even more unhealthy fetish for 'teh hott loli', tell him to design the bastard child of Feudal Japan and LSD, make them all violent and stupid (more so than an oni on steroids and their already small brains surgically extracted) and more shooty than a Gatling manned by Reimu's 'I MUST NUKE EVERYTHING' face."

A rather special satori. (Besides Koishi, that is.) Besides being one of the oldest beings around (still far below Eirin and Yukari, though), he's also spent a great amount of time on the outside world, and as such, is the one youkai go to when they can't interrogate the latest newcomer hiding in the Human Village and want information on what to do.

That is, if youkai were willing to go to him. Not only does he have a satori's habit of blurting out other people's thoughts, it's exacerabated by the fact he's got quite the tongue on him. Most of his conversation will be him picking apart your plans, mocking your appearance, and generally tearing apart everything he can... verbally.

Wears a fedora and has an odd accent, even for Gensokyo. His third eye appears to be blank.

His power, as a result, is the ability to create new thoughts and ideas in others. Too bad they're all negative.

(Remove Padre for this one plz)

Hm... do we know what the Hakurei border actually looks like?

'Cause now I'm imagining a great big mist wall surrounding Gensokyo, like a ridiculously thick layer of fog, and if you try to walk through it, you just end up walking back inside.

And in the outside world, there's just this incredibly foggy swamp, or something.

I know it's not storms, but as long as she can manipulate all kinds of weather...

Pretty sure the Hakurei border works like a mixture between an actual wall, invisibility, and Koishi's subconcious avoidance

I haven't had the time to complete the Jol thing or talk about Hikari.

I do wanna say that of the characters that have gotten profiles and are not mine, Hikari is probably my favorite or at least up there(Along with The Three Staff Seargents, I can't spell Sergents, Adela and probably Amber).

[up] Thanks. I admittedly created her to answer various questions about Gensokyo, such as, "Where would they get bananas from?" and "Will there ever be a dedicated 'summer' character?" tongue Also, I wanted a weather-changing youkai, and not in the Tenshi way.

At any rate, I've gone and done it now. Ladies and gentleman, from my long-languishing-in-disuse fanfiction.net account, I present you: Touhou Taifuujou ~ Sunshine Typhoon, the slice-of-life fanfic featuring Hikari Natsukaze! Yes, I did go and write a little fanfic for her, so you can see her in action. There's a prologue intended to introduce new readers to her as well as one chapter of hijinks with the Myouren crew.

No guarantees about the quality, but if you leave reviews, I might be able to improve the next chapter. tongue

Well, going by your story, Hikari seems interesting, but it all feels a bit rushed to me. It's a bit hard to get an idea for her battle prowess when it's basically limited to 'she used weather and bullets, but lost'.

Aside from that though, she's a pretty likeable character.

Boy, my in-depth analysis is amazing...

Slenda

A faceless eldritch abomination that is unknowingly carrying a virus that causes memory loss and rather nasty coughing fits. She is also a very shy Shrinking Violet that just wants to make friends. She has a tendency to watch people from afar; and doesn't understand that sneaking into the homes of others is taboo. In order to make herself look more human, she wears a business suit, and has drawn an emote (specifically ^_^) over where her face would be. It didn't really work

I'm about to go on a trip for about 4 days, so before I go, I'll open Suketchi up for discussion. Metaflare, we await your write-up! Or everyone else will, anyway. I will be eager to read it when I get back!

Well, don't I have the worst timing? Just when I had a new character to add..

Well, might as well put it up before I forget...

Cyndy Burspark - The Dragon Princess

As her title implies, Cyndy is a dragonic being. The 'princess' part was added because it inspires the image of a beautiful or pretty woman, which helps deal with her deep insecurities about her appearance. Always hidden behind a mask, hood, and several layers of clothing, no one has ever seen her face. Her dragonic blood makes her a naturally resilient being, and an excellent fire-based magic user, but Cyndy's attempts to keep her face hidden prevents her from unleashing her full power upon anyone.

And I guess it's too late to add to Shujiko's profile? I didn't realise we could write a lot more than I did.
