Well, you're not supposed to drink it straight from the bottle; it's intended to mix.

Instead of one of these new-fangled "nitro taps", why don't they just use a hand pump with aerating nozzle, like British pubs do and which does it naturally? Seems far easier to me. Or have US bars just become too used to CO 2 bottles and automation?

...

So, I just come to my parents house. And it turns out they're lacking on alcohol, right? Except for one bottle...

of smirnoff.

And I drank it.

I feel like I've comitted a crime.

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.

Smirnoff vodka or one of their flavored drinks? In the case of the former, you just drank middling-crap vodka. No big deal. If it was one of the Smirnoff Ice flavored things, though, I'm sorry for you and your soul.

What do Cobbies have on hand for vodka cocktails? I seem to change brands every time I run out of something and am wondering if people have a good "go to" vodka.

This is working pretty well now, but not sure if I'll be able to get it if I'm outside Portland and desperately need to make a Cosmo or something.

I like Russian Standard for cocktails. Decently smooth and not overpriced. But then again, I know little about vodka seeing as I'm firmly in the whiskey camp here. :D

Russian Standard does my beloved Imperia Vodka, so probably worth looking into.

mmmm...3 shots of homemade whiskey liqueur. My belly's warm, my mind is loosening up and on my tongue there is the taste of bourbon, vanilla and oranges. Time to find myself a soap box.

There was a bit of peach and cherry in there too, but the oranges kinda overpowered the taste.

Next time, I'm cutting down on the orange.

Have moved on to the homemade Kahlua, some English breakfast tea, and milk. Really tasty, and sleep-inducing.

Groundbreaking: me having something other than wine or beer for the first time. Just hard lemonade, though. Tasty. Although, that's having moved on from beer.

Not entirely sure if that made grammatical sense; my low tolerance is showing.

Space — Hard Lemonade is tasty. It can also be sneaky, though, because it's so tasty.

I don't get it, either, Kino, unless it's some hold-over from the whole fruity = girly thing, that lemonade is somehow exempt from and has been for decades.

I'm not a fan of those drinks because of how sweet they are, since sugariness equals bad hangover for me. Also I don't like how they taste.

Also, cranberry Mike's plus vodka makes for a really tasty vodka cran.

I'm not a fan of Smirnoff or any of its fruity vodka counterparts either they often sell in bars and clubs either. Those things leave a horrible film of sugar on your teeth and they're far too sweet. I don't think they're a particularly "girlie" drink as I seem to recall both men and women alike drinking them in those scenes.

I can't for the life of me remember what a chain of drinks like Smirnof sold in England were called. I'll ask a friend but by God that's going to irk me for the remainder of the day.

Ok found it. VK Ice twas its name, was far more popular than Smirnoff which was considered a little more manly I guess.

Tried white wine for my twenty-first birthday, can't remember the exact brand but it was supposed to taste like lime and apricot. I could only taste lime and alcohol.

It counts as responsible if I slammed down my glass and yelled "I WON, BITCHES" when I finished before my older friends, right?

Hopefully, said glass didn't crack from being slammed down...

That's one thing I never quite understood, is the design of wine glasses. They're so fragile. I'm always terrified that I'm going to break one by accident, or that it's going to fall out of my hands and shatter.

The stem is really what's supposed to be held so body heat doesn't hit the wine so much (whites are generally served at about 42°F, reds around 54°F). Possibly to also keep finger prints to a minimum.

There's probably a reasoning for the ultra-thin nature of good wine glasses. I'm guessing someone decided it hit the palate/tongue better at one point.

On that note, I don't like the stemless wine glasses that have suddenly become trendy.
