mellon brings a fair point. I mean, we have the Trash Heap, the Jammies thread, the Random Thoughts thread. In fact, I think Central himself said a today that there were too many threads in that kind of style and that he sometimes wondered where to post things.
It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.Hey, did my thread get deleted?
Ruining everything forever. So? We have an entire forum already dedicated to serious discussion (OTC).
I really don't see what the addition of another subforum takes away from this one, or any of the others.
mellon: Please refer to my last post again. Like I said, I have no problem with this subforum's continued existence.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....@Gelzo: It was redundant since we had this thread. So yes.
OTC isn't for serious discussion, so much as it is about shouting down the people on the other side of the argument.
Tell me, though, Spain.
What purpose does starting up a silly subforum serve? Besides encouraging wonderposting and stupid conversations.
To put it another way:
To Fast Eddie- Intelligent conversation is desirable. Wonderposting is undesirable.
There are too many toasters in my chimney!(Though YF somehow ended up with a bunch of random discussion threads, so...)
Easy. It keeps it out of the places where it doesn't belong. Telling someone "take the shitposting over there" could potentially be more effective than telling them "don't shitpost ever".

Heapers’ Hangout@Spain: Because a silliness-dedicated subfora would only be as lawful as its users, and OTC and YF at least tend to attract more law-abiding users.
A silliness subfora might attract immaturity the way IJBM attracted petty sniping.
How about we all get some sleep and discuss this tomorrow?
I think "high-quality silliness" could be argued for, but not at this hour.

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Yes, let's not start demonizing subforums. It's silly.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....I thought YF was already silly.
I second Tangent's notion. It's not like anything apocalyptically forum-changing is going to happen in the mean time anyway.
This will be here. Trash Heap will be here. Life goes on.
Seconding Tangent here.
Heapers’ HangoutIt's also worth keeping in mind that only Fast Eddie can create a new subforum. Since he made this one, it can be inferred that he sees no problem with it.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.All I'm saying is that by now, Yack Fest has practically become that counterpart you speak of.
And mellon ninja's me.

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.Yeah....sure. Fine.
But I'm coming back here tomorrow.
Let me say again; neither do I.

I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....OTC and the Totally Radical Thread have completely different atmospheres. The former is centred around debate and news, particularly that of a political or scientific nature. The Totally Radical Thread is generally cosier and more personal.
I honestly don't think that we can get much sillier than some of the threads which are in Yack Fest already, but it's not a place I visit frequently.
"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajI was hoping that this was the only reason.
Ruining everything forever.Using IJBM as an example.
Did the presence of IJBM keep the complaints and sniping confined to the appropriate subforum?
There are too many toasters in my chimney!By and large, it did. It was merely that said complaining/sniping became too much for the mods to handle within IJBM. Which is a potential problem with the silliness forum as well, though we already have at least 3 people who said they'd be willing to moderate it so as not to overwhelm the mods.
Anyway, yeah, I'm picking this up again tomorrow.

Heapers’ HangoutCygan:
IJBM seemed to be the Appendix of the Forums: Was useful initially, but then got too overloaded with badness and threatened to burst.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelSpain, did you see the part where I mentioned a silly subfora might attract immaturity the same way IJBM attracted petty rudeness?
Which is why I and two other people volunteered to moderate that board exclusively.
My above statement also still stands. "Silly Posts" —> "RAMPANT IDIOCY" does not follow.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....
Er, I dunno. Some of the complaining posts have kinda sounded like that, so I was directing it at complainers in general, I guess.
I don't get what the big deal is over this subforum.
