There were a lot of good things to be found in Mario Sunshine. While it may not have been the best Mario title ever, it certainly was one of the best platformers of that generation.
I'm looking back on it now, and I can't really remember why I more or less disliked it back then. All I can remember is a colourful setting, sharp controls, Yoshi, and the FLUDD that was maybe a little over-used but otherwise a fine mechanic.
But then again, I also remember that the levels that were the most fun were the 'secret' levels, featuring classic get-to-the-goal platforming with no FLUDD.
I loved Sunshine, but I remember it being rather unforgivably difficult.
It was, at times. That stupid Chucker Pinata Secret Stage is one prime example of its bullshit difficulty.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.THE LILY PADS
Worst. Mario level. EVER.
Ah, yes, the Lilypads Special Stage. I'd rather play through Sonic 2006 than go through that nonsense again.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows. What about Sonic 2006, The Last Story, combined with Sonic's Mach Speed section, combined with Silver's Billiard ball puzzle, combined with the lily pads? Huh? Huh?
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Russian Roulette. With a machine gun.

I know it's pretty likely, considering its appearance in both Galaxy games, but I'd like to see the Fire Flower again. Or maybe the Sky/Marine Pop? Hey, a guy can dream.
Weird in a Can (updated M-F)@ Marioguy 128: Wonder what Sean Malstrom thinks of this.

He couldn't possibly be any less thrilled, and I, for one, don't blame him.
And I for one ask, why exactly should we care about Sean Malstorm thinks? Seriously, why?
Back on topic, ooh, made by Galaxy Team? Yay! :D
It's more frustrating waiting for the asskicking than the asskicking itself.Oh God not that again.

I tried reading to the end of that, but I eventually quit in disgust about this whole "first class" and "second class" gamers thing, which just strikes me as incredibly elitist. The sooner we stop dissing people for playing games that aren't aimed towards us (and yes, that includes both the FPS fan who disses Mario and the Mario fan who disses FP Ses, and even supposed "hardcore" gamers looking down on "casual" gamers), the better the industry will be.
The blind man walking off the cliff is not making a leap of faith.I read that whole... thing. I don't know whether to laugh or what. Is that guy serious? Wow.
Moving on. This now increases my chances of getting a 3DS.

Considering that the 2D Mario games sold a lot more than the 3D Mario games, I'm thinking this guy isn't too far off about his points.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Uh, why did you pothole it to Polygon Ceiling? The 3D Marios are FAR from examples of that trope.

I thought the open-ended Mario games where alright. But they didn't provide the same level of pure fun galaxy had. So I kinda hope they play to their strengths make it more on the linear side.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova Scotian
I like the "Fludd" coming back rumor, I fucking loved Sunshine!
You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.
