The aesthetics and fanservice of Mania were nice touches, but the key element for me was getting a mix of physics and level design that I'd hadn't quite experienced since 3&K. Advance 1 got close, but the over reliance on bottomless pits and beginner's traps in the latter half tarnished it a bit.
Speaking of retro games, you guys know those licensed Genesis and Saturn USB controllers by RetroBit? Has anyone tried the controllers on Sonic Mania to see if they work for that game?

Soooo, anyone else want Sonic Riders 4? If it was a reality, what would you want to have/see/don't have in the game?
Don't make it like Free Riders, we gucci.
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh. Why don't people ever say "we versace?"
But yeah, not like Free Riders, it had cardboard cutout scenes and that's not fun.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. That and compared to Zero Gravity, the story took a massive tumble. Only question is do we make the gameplay more like Riders, Zero Gravity, or try to find a good balance.
Hmm. I generally liked the air mechanic in Riders, but Zero Gravity had more fun race tracks.
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Find a good balance with the speed where its fun (and faster than Zero Gravity) but not overdo it (Riders). Bring back drifting and boost, but make the boost a single hit like in Zero instead of the cutscenes in Riders. And a strong level design like in Zero Gravity….though it’d be cool to see how farther they can go. Anything else?
Have a traditional control scheme that doesn't require any peripherals. Free Riders only allowed the use of the Kinect to control anything, and that led to the game killing the spinoff.
Yeahhhhhh they really should've made Wii and Sony ports for the game with better control cuz even Zero Gravity on the Wii functioned pretty well (and most people just used the Wii Remote's D Pad). Plus, they gave us Metal Sonic and Vector and the tracks...despite half of them being okay/decent so they could've been fun to play traditionally.
They weren't cutscenes...and it's not like they slowed down the game at all.
Though, I guess all of them should be level 2.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Anyone seen this brief explanation◊ of the SA1 character arcs? XD
The Protomen enhanced my life. The Riders sub-series is dead, and I am 100% okay with that.
Things that are not okay: That post.
That post synonymous with word: OK
Actual Accuracy...
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Riders is my favorite among the racing titles. It fits with Sonic's "too cool for school" attitude. Mario does karts. Sonic does hoverboards. They even gave him an antagonist who wasn't a recolored hedgehog OC, or a giant Space Flea from nowhere, or Doctor Eggman for the umpteenth time.
The plot was a joke but it was a joke that framed riding on freaking hoverboards through waterfalls, jungles, and futuristic cities.
Also, doing the gravity shift thing in Zero Gravity was addictive and fun.
I'd take Riders 4 over Team Sonic Racing. I can buy Sonic hopping on a hoverboard to "even the playing field" more than I can Sonic hopping into a car.
Sonic All-Stars Transformed was great with the alternate modes but Riders had more interesting stages.
EDIT: Middle ground? Have future Sonic racing games feature Sonic on an Extreme Gear while everyone else uses regular cars.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Or maybe the SUMO Digital team can try making a Riders game?
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniI never played Zero Gravity, but I remember really liking the first Riders. It'd be cool if they did something new with it.

More Riders would mean more Riders music and that's only a good thing.
At some level I do desire to see Team Knothole get reintegrated into canon somehow, even if they're relegated to a sidestory.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Honestly my biggest problem with Riders (at least the first game, not necessarily sure how much it applies with Zero Gravity since I’ve only played that one not single player once) was that it’s not very multiplayer friendly, like with Team Sonic Racing I’m the only one in my friend group that owns it but everyone I’ve given a controller has been able to easily figure it out, with Riders that isn’t the case. Like it’s fun when you know what you’re doing but it also makes it not really great with multiplayer which, kind of defeats the point of a racing game
Basically if they fixed that I’d love a new Riders lol

From my experience Zero Gravity is easier to get into but it still takes time to get into the mechanics. The multiplayer modes, at least battle mode helped make it more fun for them.
I still think the concept of Sonic Riders is really cool, so I would not oppose a fourth game.
That said, someone who isn't Sonic Team should develop it.
This. I know TSR's campaign mode may have been fluff, but it feels like the best kind of fluff, if that makes sense.
One touch from TSR's story mode I really appreciate from Sumo Digital was having Vector refer to Espio and Charmy by name. We don't see them, but they still get a nod, which is more than what can be said for Sonic Free Riders where Vector doesn't even make the slightest allusion to them.
Actually, on that note, if we get a Sonic Riders 4 from a new dev team, give us all the Chaotix as racers, not just Vector. (Not sure why he gets all the attention...)
Pretty sure that's a common sentiment among most modern fans; they like the world and characters more than the games themselves.
But as a person who loves the challenge in my games, Mania has my full support and I still call it one of the best video games in the series period.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.
