The latest in the series of the "Bitch about fanbases you don't like" tropes (Fan Hater, Nostalgia Filter, Fandom Heresy ect ect), the examples are, predictably, a fucking mess. The overwhelming majority of them are incredibly whiny, horribly written, vague, dubious, and full of stealth Complaining About Shows You Dont Like (the "indie" one, for ex). I'd rather see them cut but the default situation with this kind of thing is to move them to Troper Tales (like what happened with Fan Hater).

I don't see the point of having yet another trope saying "Fans are stupid dipshits" but there's nothing offensively bad about the description and it's apparently been here for some times, it could be decent example-less. That quote could probably be shortened to the last sentence, though.

So yeah, thoughts.

Complaining About Fandoms You Don't Like ahoy.

Yeah, this is just a License To Whine. I think an Example Sectionectomy would be welcome here.

Ugh, another one. Just scrap the examples, lock the page and be done with it.

Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.

Get rid of the image too if you're gonna lock it. Its font is too small to see very easily, and the image is just another example of bitching about fanbases you don't like.

What is it with people and their urge to whine online? TV Tropes Is Not A Complaints Site. Kill the examples with fire, but keep the page itself, as the OP has a point about it being salvageable.

Looking at the article a few times, some of the examples do have merit (the general ones and those like it i'm talking about mostly) but i do agree it is pretty prone to complaining. I would suggest an examples cleanup and/or moving to Troper Tales. I'm volunteering to curate if necessary.

Yeah, do stuff with this trope.

However I thought the image captures the trope just fine.

So, how many agreements do we need before we can do an example zap? Looks like we have a consensus.

I don't know exactly, but you've got another one.

Well then, if there are no objections, I'll zap the examples since it seems we have a consensus.

Well then, since we have a consensus, I'm zapping the examples now.

Done. Anything left to discuss, or can this be locked?

Why do we have to lock it? We could require examples to be sourced (anything to prove it's a fanbase and not just a few people would do) and signed, or even placed in Troper Tales, or just say that no examples are allowed.

That would be tricky. If you know a forum where entire fandoms gather, fair enough. Apart from that, how would we prove it's not just a few people?

^^I really don't see how you can "source" a fandom being hypocritical, and if you want to go to the signed entries route, you might as well create Bitch About Fandom You Dont Like. If something a bit more tangible and verifiable like Hype Backlash doesn't have examples, I can't see this having any. You're free to make the TT if you want, though.

On another note, I know that was removed by Fast Eddie himself, but I think the quote he removed:

-> And, you guys say Fire Emblem is inferior to Final Fantasy because it's too hard. On an I Wanna Be The Guy forum. Too hard. IWBTG forum. —>— Grognor

is better than the current one:

"24 is the most ridiculous show in the world! I don't know how anybody can watch it. First of all, the stories are so unrealistic. And they have, like, a hundred plotlines going all at once. And half the time, the good guys are just as crooked as the villains. I can't deal with it, that's why I stick to a show where you can follow the story, that's realistic, and the bad guys and good guys are clear cut. Y'know, like Lost."

I don't think we need examples. The image is pretty much just enough to convey it.

Locking isn't really necessary when it's not going to be vandalized further.

P.S. General examples should stay. I wonder if the page had been better with cleanup before zap.

What do we class as a 'general example'?

[up][up] "Every single member of the fandom is objectively a hypocrite", I would guess. But since examples like that don't exist, I shouldn't think it would be a problem to leave them out.

Why don't we just kill it? I don't want any page you can pothole to call pepole a Hypocrite.
