The Lost Tower- Interior

With the rest of Laurie's Pokemon somberly watching, D'Autry glanced down at the ground in front of him— and then, with tears streaming down his face, raised his glowing claws above him before plunging them into the dirt.

The mons looked on, save for Laurie, who was too saddened to watch, as D'Autry continued to frantically dig into the ground, tossing tons of dirt to the side, and eventually falling into the ground as he continued to dig the six-foot tunnel that would soon contain Cole Hitoki's body. About a minute or so later, however, D'Autry's head popped back up, and he pulled himself out of the ground.

"Y-you done?" Laurie asked.

D'Autry nodded.

Laurie turned to face Zoltan. "Alright, Zoltan. Use—"

Zoltan shook his head. ~You should be the one to lower them in.~

Laurie blinked. "N-no... no, I can't. It'd be too painful."

-BUT IT WOULD ON-LY BE FAIR, WOULD-N'T IT?- asked Hetfield. -YOU WERE THEIR SIB-LING, AF-TER ALL.-

Laurie glanced down. "...yeah..."

Eventually, they nodded.

They grabbed on to the body and lowered it into the ground.

For a few moments afterwards, all they could do was just stare into the mauled face of their dead sibling. Emcee immediately switched over to playing a broadcast of "Taps" over their radio. Slipknot went up to their Trainer and nuzzled them— or tried to— and Zoltan put his arm around their shoulder before staring down at the body.

And then Laurie knelt onto the floor and let out a profuse sob that echoed throughout the Lost Tower.

Mitchell ceases his prayers upon hearing Laurie's sobbing. He decides that now is as good a time as any to go inside the tower. He turns to Gav and Christine and says "Shall we go in?"

Both Pokemon nod. Christine clings to Mitchell's neck, as he and Gav walk inside the tower.

Mitchell follows the sounds of Laurie's sobbing and the faint strains of Taps, eventually discovering a freshly-dug plot of land. Surrounding that plot are Laurie and their seven Pokemon, each holding somber vigil over the body placed within it. As much as he wants to say or do anything to relieve Laurie's anguish, Mitchell knows neither the words nor the actions that would let him do so. Thus, he keeps silent.

Route 209, past

Channah: (harrumphs) ...What are you looking at.

There is no disdain in nature, there is no humiliation.

-Kidnapped by the mother she never knew she had.-

-Neutron and Proton were trying their absolute damnedest to keep the system running, but with everything crashing down, and the adrenaline of piloting an honest-to-god mech, it was only a matter of time before the fragile glass remaining shattered.-

-Too bad for everyone involved, that fragile glass was about to meet a personality about as blunt as a cannonball.-

???: =HEY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT OF YOUR QUARTERS?!=

-A mech(?) with a pair of angular, hardlight wings intercedes in front Deziree's mech.-

There is an Aislinn about, far from home. Daydre dragged her here at some point and she looks... rather bored. She's sorta leaned against a tree, throwing a knife up and down and catching it by the handle each time. A Galarian Rapidash is stationed next to her.

Gaycrus: <My lady, perhaps you should not play with your knife like that.>

Aislinn: "Are you worried, Gaycrus? You know I know how to handle this thing, it's fine-"

.... As it happens, an improbable gust of wind blows past and sends the knife flying in a random direction.

The Lost Tower

Laurie continued to sob over their sibling's body for a few moments, with their mons all looking down silently. None of them even noticed Mitchell, Gav, and Christine entering. Eventually, however, Emcee's playing of "Taps" ended, and Laurie, still sniffling, turned to face D'Autry.

"A-alright, D'Autry," they said. "You can close the hole. I... I don't think I can look anymore."

D'Autry nodded, then went over to the massive pile of dirt he had accumulated from his use of digging and proceeded to hit it with his tail.

...maybe a bit too hard.

The pile of dirt immediately came crashing down over top of the massive hole and completely covered up Cole's body. Laurie blinked.

"O-okay, I mean, I get that you're grieving," they said, "but I don't think you had to hit it that ha—"

They paused in the middle of their sentence. D'Autry had noticed it, too, and for a few moments blinked in mild surprise before turning to look at his tail.

Both Trainer and mon were taken aback by the sight of D'Autry's tail glowing in a silvery-colored light, which soon faded. D'Autry, slightly embarrassed, proceeded to grab his tail in his claws.

"W-was that..." Laurie muttered. "D-did you just learn Iron Tail?!"

D'Autry chuckled a bit sheepishly. <S-seems like it... heh...>

NEW MOVE LEARNED: IRON TAIL

<Um... sorry I had to ruin the moment for ya...> he said.

Emcee, of course, was immediately delighted by the new move, and floated up to D'Autry with excitement.

~Oh, no! You don't have to apologize at all!~ they said. ~This is wonderful! You now have an ultra-powerful new move that you can use to take down Ice-types whenever they get the chance to attack!~

And then they were interrupted by a glare from Hetfield.

~...Though of course... we are still at a funeral, so... we can leave that until later,~ said Emcee sheepishly, glancing down at the floor with slight shame.

Hetfield nodded. -GOOD. AT THE VE-RY LEAST YOU FI-NAL-LY AG-REED THAT THAT IN-TER-RUP-TION WAS AB-SO-LUTE-LY STU-PID AND YOU KNOW IT. WE SHOULD GET BACK TO THE FU-NER-AL; IT WOULD ON-LY BE FAIR.-

~Yes, yes, of course... my apologies,~ said Emcee, chastised.

Laurie nodded, still sniffling. "Yeah... as happy as I am that D'Autry learned a new move, I... don't think any of us are in the right headspace to talk about that right now."

D'Autry, meanwhile, was getting to work on flattening the ground, while Zoltan was looking around for anything that could be used as a grave marker. Eventually, however, he found a few flowers, and proceeded to go up to the newly-flattened ground (that D'Autry had just gotten off of) and place the flowers there.

Laurie and their mons proceeded to stare down at Cole's grave solemnly for a few moments, with Laurie removing their hat and holding it to their chest in reverance.

None of the mons had anything that they could remove— certainly not Hetfield or Emcee, neither of whom could remove anything even if they had something on them— so they merely bowed their heads.

Or, in Hetfield and Emcee's cases, their whole body.

Mitchell is startled when D'Autry knocks the pile of dirt into the hole where Cole's body is laid to rest. However, he manages to regain his composure as Laurie and their Pokemon learn of D'Autry's new move.

Meanwhile, Gav gets an idea similar to Zoltan's regarding marking the grave. Instead of searching for a stone, however, he uses his front teeth to carve the initials "C. H." into a patch of dirt between Cole's grave and the nearest tower wall. When he finishes his carving, he joins the group at one side of the grave and bows his head.

Mitchell also joins the group, standing opposite Gav, and also bows his head. "Cole Hitoki," he softly whispers. "You will be missed."

Christine loosens her grip on Mitchell's neck and stands on his right shoulder. She bows her whole body, while also clasping her ribbon appendages together. She once more silently wishes as she did outside the tower, but she also holds on firmly to a certain item hidden within her appendages.

This item, taken from Mitchell's stroller, is a Pokeball.

The Wandering Mountain

Deziree: AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

-Spam-tom begins retreating at a noticeable pace.-

Spam-tom: =I DON'T GET THE JOKE, BUT I ALSO DON'T WANT TO BE THE PUNCHLINE! TIME TO [Take a trip to scenic Unova!]=

-The thrusters on the back of the Huckebein flare to life and rocket the mech forward at Gs that would have incapacitated any normal human. With the free hand, Deziree grabs the possessed mech's face.-

Deziree: Trying to leave?! But you just arrived! AND I NEED TO TEST THAT SUIT OF YOURS!

Spam-tom: =eep=

-Holding the slightly smaller mech in front of her, Deziree notes the contours and sharp corners on the armor, the sloping at certain spots, and the arm cannon that was ever so slowly being raised to point at her mech's legs.-

De ZiRee: Now now now, I already know the ambulatory specifics of your unit - you already demonstrated those!

-She slams the mech against the wall, jarring the targeting system and shattering its shoulder, as well as the wings on its back that allowed it to float.-

deZirEE: NOW LET'S TRY FOR A MOH'S SCALE TEST!

-She begins running down the hallway, dragging Spam-tom's mech along the wall the whole while, sending sparks and metallic shards out behind her as the horrible sound of whatever metal alloy the mech was crafted from was pressed between the Huckebein's magnetic-alloyed plates and the reinforced walls.-

Laurie saw the C.H. get carved into the dirt and smiled, nodding over at Gav.

"...thanks, Gav," they muttered.

For a few more moments, everyone stared down in silence, before eventually Laurie took a breath and finally looked back up.

"A-alright," they said. "Let's go."

They returned all of their mons, save for D'Autry, who stayed behind for a few more moments to stare at the grave.

Then, finally, D'Autry followed them out.

Outside of the Lost Tower

Laurie took a breath, staring back at the Tower.

"...wow. That... that was painful."

A few moments later, when Laurie and D'Autry move to leave the tower, Mitchell, Gav, and Christine follow them out.

"Yes, it was," Mitchell says, in agreement with Laurie. "Maybe," he adds, "when you feel up for it, you could let your folks know what happened."

Gav and Christine nod in unison.

Outside of the Lost Tower

Laurie nodded. “Yes… I suppose I should."

They glanced down at Christine for a few moments— and then noticed the PokeBall.

"…wait a minute, is that?"

"Is that, what?", Mitchell asks Laurie, before glancing where they are looking.

It is then that he sees Christine, with a Pokeball in her appendages.

"Oh, dear," Mitchell says. "That must have fallen out of the stroller. Thanks for-"

His words are cut off by Christine rapidly shaking her body, a loud chime emanating from her. She shows Mitchell the ball, then points at herself.

Mitchell guesses at Christine's intent, but he asks anyway. "You... you want me to catch you?"

Christine firmly nods. <Please, Savior,> she says.

Mitchell sighs. "Very well," he says, as he takes the Pokeball from Christine and enlarges it. "If you want to come with me, who am I to deny you?"

Christine slaps the button on the Pokeball, and she is instantly sucked inside it. It shakes once, twice, three times, then clicks. With that, Christine is officially caught my Mitchell.

Gav applauds with his forepaws. <Well done, Boss,> he says. <You've finally got more than just me to protect you.>

Mitchell, satisfied that Christine was securely caught, turns his attention back to Laurie. "Sorry about that," he says.

Outside of The Lost Tower

"Oh, no, it's fine,” said Laurie. "I’m happy that you were able to catch Christine."

They paused.

"I think I'll do one better than just call my parents," they said. "I… think it would be best to deliver them the news in person. They can meet the rest of my Pokémon that way, too."

And then after a bit:

"My home's in Eterna… would you like to come?"

"If you're okay with me coming," Mitchell replies, "then I would be happy to come with you."

Gav takes the opportunity to jump back into his Pokeball at this point.

"Alright, then," said Laurie. "Let's head off."

D'Autry, meanwhile, went back inside his PokeBall, and Laurie began to head back home.

SOME TIME LATER

Eterna City (pre-Braker)

"...Well, here we are," said Laurie, glancing around for a few minutes at Eterna City.

They stared ahead at their childhood home, taking a deep breath as they prepared to knock on the door and deliver the news. It looked exactly the same as they had always remembered it— a chestnut brown brick exterior with red windows and doors and green curtains. Naturally, they figured, their parents had to be waiting inside, doing... something. Laurie didn't even know what.

They stepped up to the door, turning to Mitchell as they went.

"Hope you're ready to meet my parents," they said.

-A figure watches the battle from the shadows, hiding his true intent from the rest of the people in the stands.-

-Piku-chan's tail glows with a metallic sheen as he turns around and slams it into the ground, raising a barrage of steel spikes in the general area of Kec. Hatty surrounds her braids in a dark aura of violence and swings them, launching a wave of dark energy in Kec's general direction.-

Roark: Now, Rampardos! Use Focus Energy and Zen Headbutt!

-Roark's Rampardos stomped his foot on the ground and focuses his breath, channeling his energy throughout his body and into his head, causing it to glow a bright blue as he charges headlong at Oshawittle, who draws his sword and blasts the blade with Ice Beam, imbuing it with the power of an Ice-type move and slash at Rampardos. The collision of attacks not only impacts Rampardos, but it shatters the ice around the blade and throws Oshawittle backwards.-

A CRITICAL HIT!

Me: Oshawittle, return for now.

-Ian calls Oshawittle back to his Poké Ball.-

Me: Piku-chan, I choose you!

-Piku-chan jumps off of Ian's shoulder and into battle.-

-Simon recovers from being thrown backwards by the blade attack and shifts his wrist, causing his pendulum to sway back and forth as Hatty fires a rainbow-colored beam of Psychic energy at the silvery pendulum. The reflective coin of Simon's pendulum reflects the rainbow light in a similar manner to Fae's Hypno reflecting Mismagius' Hex, creating a mesmeric, almost blinding flash of rainbow light that fills the stadium.-

Marian: And just like Fae, Evelyn creates a an alluring light show from which it's hard to look away! Only this time, in ALL COLORS!

Kendall hasn't lifted a finger, said a word, or done anything of note since sending out his two Pokemon. He's just sitting there, listening to music while his team does all the work.

He doesn't even comment on the commentary as Helmsman Dives in a splash to dilute the painful flash of light and Kamui combats it with light of her own, her Drought coming down as a Solar Beam, scattering the light as it meets it head-on.

Jubilife City

-Hailee arrives back in Jubilife City after passing through Oreburgh Gate and Route 203 again-

Hailee: Whew! Jubilife City, it is good to be back! Now, my parents said Jerry would be waiting for me with 2 deliveries. Hmmm... where would I be if I were a deliveryman waiting to deliver something?

-Hailee wonders for a while, and eventually gets an idea-

Hailee: Of course! The Pokemon Center! I don't have a mailbox here, so he might be there!

-Hailee dashes towards the Pokemon Center, and indeed finds Jerry there-

Jerry: Oh, there you are.

Hailee: Figured you'd be here.

Jerry: Now, to business. Your parents told me to deliver 2 things for you- First up, this Egg they received in Lavaridge they felt like giving you, and an incubator to keep it in.

-Hailee receives the Egg from Jerry, its design, white with red and blue triangle-like shapes, as well as an incubator-

Hailee: Well, uh, thanks.

Jerry: And this next one they got as a gift from Professor Birch when they visited Littleroot Town as part of their business trip. Its... a lot more lively than the Egg, that's for sure.

-Hailee receives a Pokeball containing a Pokemon inside-

Hailee: Thanks.

Jerry: Anyways, see ya later. I got another delivery to take care of. Ta-ta!

-Jerry leaves-

Hailee: Huh. Well, I wonder what's in this Pokeball...

-Hailee opens the Pokeball, releasing a Torchic-

Torchic: Ah! Who's there? Where am I? Oh, you must be that 'Hailee' girl those adults were talking about.

Hailee: Aw, its a cute little Torchic! I'm gonna call you Nugget!

Nugget: So long as you promise not to eat me.

Hailee: As for you, little Egg... I don't know what you'll hatch into, so I'll just call you 'The Egg' for now. Anyways, welcome to the team, Nugget and The Egg! Now come on! Next stop: Floaroma, then Eterna!

Bishop would blare over the ship's intercom. "We have reached our target site. Beginning dive, please hang on."

Silas pulled his mask on, Jackal feeling a tingle run up his spine. "Got you..."

The ship surfaced, it needed to restock it's air supply for the next few weeks. Delta looked out over the bridge, the security update had rendered them visible for just a moment, he didn't like it.

"See sir, no major issue! We're-" Josiah began right before the klaxons went off.

Delta shot him a dirty look from behind his helmet... right before something shook the entire ship by ramming into it.

Several Delta Peons ran up to the vessel lodged into the launch doors of the supercarrier, it seemed familiar. How did it find them? Who was inside?

The doors hissed open, and several Peons suddenly realized what had happened. One barely had time to raise his petrifier before being knocked into the ocean by an aura sphere, a Lucario by the man's side.

Jackal was here... the Aurabolts had found them.

"Alright everyone, begin operation."

Wyndon Stadium, past

"Use Iron Tail!" Hoops yells, as the spikes from Max Steelspike tear across the stadium towards their pokémon.

Kec becomes steel type and swings his tail at the first spike, bouncing off it and moving to the next one. However, his timing is wrong on the fourth jump, and the spike hits him from below and throws him into the air. From here he cannot defend himself, and is hit by Hatty's Max Darkness attack. The attack presses him into the ground, creating a large crater.

When it is done, Kec manages to get to his feet, though it is clear that he has almost nothing left. <Not yet! We're so close!> He turns to Hoops. <It's time for that!>

"Right!" Hoops reaches into their pocket and pulls out a white bracelet with a gemstone on it, and presses it onto their wrist. "Here we go."

Energy begins to spill from the bracelet. It moves like water, first washing over Hoops and then flowing towards Kec, enveloping him in the energy. The sign of a Z-move flashes in the air in front of him.

"Ian! Evelyn!" Hoops yells. "One way or another, I think this will be the end of the battle! I wish it could go on forever, but I know that's not possible. Just know that you two, and Kim, have given me the best battle of my life so far!"

Hello all, I hope that the time between my last post and now has been good for all of you. Thank you for all the great comments adding to the discussion, it was great to get some perspectives on the evolution stone situation that I was talking about last time. We won't be talking about a topic quite so big this time, for reasons that some of you might already have guessed, but we'll get to that in a minute.

First of all, I'll give you a few quick updates. We're still in Veilstone City, and the contest there will be starting tomorrow. I personally won't be taking part in this one, I think Hoops has chosen to use Sal, but I'm excited to see the show. Xaster will also be competing.

And speaking of Xaster, we're all very proud of him because the other day he won his third gym battle against the Veilstone Gym Leader, Maylene. RiRi was by far the star of the show, defeating all three of the gym leader's pokémon and evolving all the way to an Azumarill in the process. We knew he was getting stronger, but this really is impressive. And then his egg hatched and he added a Riolu named LuLu to his team, so all in all a good day for Xaster.

Oh, and with regards to Hoops' team, we sadly had to say goodbye to Api. I know I haven't spoken about him much on this blog before, mostly because the two of us weren't really friends, but I'm still sad to see him go. He was a dependable one, but unfortunately health concerns mean he just can't keep travelling with us. He should be okay in his new home. Although, we do have a new team member in the form of Sno the Snover. She's a bit abrasive, but we're sure she'll mellow out.

Right, that's all of the updates, and so now we'll move onto the main topic of this particular post.

So, they released a trailer for a sequel to the 2019 Kecleonman movie. I actually did film my live reaction to the trailer and I'll be posting it here later, but first let me give my more collected thoughts.

I know why they're making a sequel - the current obsession with superhero media means that they're a cash cow, and the first one did well enough to justify making a sequel. I just wish they weren't, because I haven't spoken to any fans of the original property who actually enjoyed the reboot.

So at the start of the trailer, we see Kecleonman engaging a group of thieves in a fight. I have no problem with this part, it looks at least competently made, although it seems from the start that they'll be going for the same colour desaturation that the first movie used, and I've spoken before about why Kecleonman needs to be a bright and colourful hero in order to work as a character. Then we get the studio logos, and we see Kecleonman as his secret identify, Leon Kecman. Except they changed it to Leon Adams in the first movie because I suppose they didn't like the joke.

So we see Leon "Adams" at a graveyard, looking at the graves of people who do have the surname Kecman? I have several theories as to what this means. The first is that they're completely retconning the choice from the first movie, but as bad as these writers are I don't think they'd make that kind of change without an explanation. So my main theory is that we'll find out Leon was adopted (which a change from the original movie and comics but they already changed everything else about the character) and Kecman will turn out to be the name of his birth parents. That would seem to suggest this film will be dealing with Leon's identity during the film. The other possibility is that they don't plan to change anything, and this is an easter egg for the fans. But because of the movie we have to watch to get that easter egg, it would be like finding an easter egg in a Trubbish's hangout spot. Yes it might still taste good but look at where you had to go to get it.

We then see the first look at our villain for the movie, which I have a problem with. Okay, so, not a lot of people read the Kecleonman comics from the nineties, and they only had a five issue run before being cancelled. In that run, there were three major villains that Kecleonman faced, those being Squirtacular, Dark Ryan, and Gardevil. Some of you may remember that in my initial review of the first movie, I said that if they were going to make a sequel then Dark Ryan should be the villain, because his nightmare based powers would be the easiest to adapt to these grittier movies. Not that I like this style, but if these films insist on existing then I want them to be as good as possible. Instead, the villain they're using for this movie is Seviperil. If you're confused at why they weren't in the list I just mentioned, it's because their origin from the comic is a single line when a boastful Kecleonman lists villains that he has defeated. One word, in one line is the only basis for this character.

It seems that Dark Ryan is an even more effective villain than I thought, because he has managed to trap me in a nightmare, one where the franchise I love is in the hands of people who have no idea what to do with it. Why would the villain be a character who hasn't even physically appeared in a Kecleonman property before. It would be like me calling someone who was in front of me in a queue that got the last scone my greatest enemy. I can only assume that they're trying to avoid fan ire by not messing up a character from the comics, but that ship has already sailed! This is like trying to convince your dinner guests that the sewage flood doesn't mean the food is bad because look, the cranberry sauce didn't get touched!

Even worse, based on the look they gave to Seviperil in this movie it looks like they're setting them up to be a dark mirror of Kecleonman, a plot point that we're all just tired of by now. When it's done well it gives our hero character development, but Leon from the first film was so unlikeable that an entire truck load of character development couldn't make me like him.

The rest of the trailer is just shots of the supporting cast from the first movie who apparently couldn't get out of their contracts, as if to assure us all that yes, they're all in the movie, as if anyone cares. I just... I love this character, and the way they're treating him upsets me.

Anyway, I've ranted long enough about this. I promise next time I'll talk about more serious topics, but I still need to do a bit more research on the topic before I can give my thoughts on it on the internet. Mitchell, having followed Laurie to Eterna City, is busily combing out his hair and otherwise trying to make himself presentable. As such, his is startled when Laurie asks him if he's ready to meet their parents.

"I hope so, too," Mitchell says. "We won't know until we actually meet, though."

Wyndon Stadium (vs. Hoops)

From the background, Kim smiled, happy to have been a part of Hoops' best battle and knowing full well that Hoops was likely going to win this.

And then she noticed the Z-Ring and saw the Z-Move happen.

Well, she thought to herself. I didn't think they'd have a Z-Ring with them.

And then— something happened.

Without warning, as Hoops loaded up the Mega Stone, one member of Hoops's side of the audience— which was also the side of the audience that Kim was on— suddenly cried out:

"IS THIS THE REAL LIFE?"

You get one guess as to what happened next.

Sure enough, as soon as the energy began flowing through Kec, half the crowd began screaming the lyrics to "Bohemian Rhapsody" like utter madmen. Kim just blinked, glancing up at the crowd.

"T-they do this for Z-Moves, too?" she asked herself. "What am I missing...?"

Eterna City (pre-Braker)

Laurie nodded. "Alright, then."

And soon afterwards they went up to the door and knocked on it. There was a few moments of silence before the door eventually opened, and a woman with bright curly blond hair and blue eyes made herself evident on the other side. She was dressed in a bright blue shirt that definitely came from a Kalosian designer, and was also wearing designer blue jeans. Next to her was a man dressed in a brown suit and tie, with dark black square glasses and yellow pants. A mining uniform was hung up on the wall.

The two people that had just answered the door were Catarina Blanche-Hitoki (Laurie's mother) and Kochirou Hitoki (Laurie's father). For a few moments, they stared over at their child, before Catarina broke out into a massive grin and ran over to hug Laurie.

"Laurie~!" she exclaimed. "Oh, it's been so long! How have you been?"

Laurie, somewhat embarrassed by their mother's smothering nature, faltered for a few moments. "I-I came here to—"

But they were interrupted by their mother immediately ushering them inside the house, decorated to the brim with old, 1980's-era technology. Kalosian and Sinnohian flags were hung up all over the house. Catarina led Laurie to the kitchen table and immediately got to work behind the stove.

"Would you like anything to eat?" she asked. "I'm sure you must be hungry— I could make you a chocolate and nutella crepe if you want one..."

Kouchirou just chuckled a bit. "Catarina, please. Save the food for later; I'm sure your child's fine."

By that point Laurie had recovered slightly, and felt ready to speak.

"A-actually, that's the thing," they said. "I'm... not fine. Not really in the mood for a chocolate and nutella crepe, either."

Catarina and Kouchirou blinked.

"Laurie?" asked their father. "What's wrong?"

"Mon Dieu...!" gasped Catarina. "A-are you sick?"

Laurie shook their head. "No. Physically I feel fine. Mentally, on the other hand..."

They looked down for a few moments, with tears coming to their eyes.

"...I can confirm it now," they said. "Cole's dead."

Kouchirou and Catarina were stopped dead in their tracks by the revelation. The latter's eyes instantly welled up with tears, and the former just stared off into the distance.

"W-what...?" muttered Kouchirou.

Laurie nodded. "We... we found a portal to Hisui... and we went inside, but by the time we found Cole... their face had been mauled off by a Pokemon I couldn't see. They were lying on the floor, motionless. We..." They choked. "We buried them already. J-just... just thought you should know."

Catarina immediately started sobbing and ran up to hug her child.

"Oh, Laurie...!"

She hugged them, still sobbing all the while. Kouchirou just stood there in shock for a few moments.

"...I... I never thought we'd get actual confirmation," he said. "I mean, we had figured it before, sure, but to get actual confirmation of it..."

And then he stopped. "Wait a second, 'we'? Who's this other person?"

Catarina pulled away. "Y-you... you went with someone else...?"

Laurie nodded, pulling away and trying to hide their tears. They turned to face the front door.

"Mitchell?" they asked. "You can come in now."

Striaton City

Kim smirked, and then, as if the call and response had been instigated with a Z-Move or Mega Evolution:

"Anyway the wind blows doesn't really matter to me..."

<To meee~> Elton sang, and then— <Hey, look! Kendall's goin' nuts!>

"And so's Evelyn," said Kim. "By this point, it could be anyone's contest."

"I'm coming in!", Mitchell says, as he enters the Hitoki household. He takes a quick glance around to note the decor inside, then leaves his stroller and shoes at the front doorstep before walking to the kitchen area.

Once he can see both Mr. and Mrs. Hitoki, he stops and turns to them. "Hello," he says "I'm Mitchell. I'm just visiting from Castelia." Then, his composure faltering, he bows his head and says "I tried to help your Laurie find Cole. I apologize, to both of you, for failing at that."
