Well, just one at the moment, but I figured this thread could be used for general questions afterward.

When a YKTTW gets the "About out of time! May be deleted soon" skull icon, how long does it have before being deleted?

Never gets deleted AFAIK, as I have seen YKTT Ws getting Necroed after one year in that state

YKTT Ws don't get deleted. The icon simply means that it's been inactive for a while.

You can manually discard them though, right?

Yeppers. Use the "launch" button then the trash can icon to "Launch to discard"

If you create a YKTTW to which you can easily add several examples yourself, but you hardly receive any additional examples, does that mean:

  • That you just picked up the obvious ones?
  • That you are the only one who actually sees the trope happening?
  • That it isn't such a mature trope after all?
  • That others just don't remember specific examples but don't contest the trope's validity?

In such a case, would it still be okay to launch the trope? For instance, my YKTTW You Answered Your Own Question has seven examples after two weeks, but five of them were added by me.

Could I launch this trope or should I leave it on YKTTW a while longer?

Well, it passes the three example minimum requirement, and two weeks is generally a long enough time that if anyone had objections to it, they probably would have posted it by now.

It's really a judgement call otherwise... If you want to leave it on there to possibly gather some more examples, go for it. Otherwise if you feel it's ready for launch, you've had it in for the minimum amount of time it's needed.

What you could do is add a reply saying "I plan to launch on X date, are there any objectioins/last minute additions?" and see how it goes from there.

It can mean any of those things. For that specific YKTTW, I think it's partly that you got the most memorable ones, and partly that the trope doesn't occur a lot in the mediums that attract the most examples the fastest — Video Games, and Anime and Manga.

If you're going to launch a YKTTW that hasn't had a lot of attention recently, you should bump it with something to the effect of "launching tomorrow" or whenever, in order to give people one last chance to add to it before it goes live.

Thanks for the feedback.

I added the countdown to launch... maybe that will generate some more replies. And if not, the trope might get more exposure once it's linked from several works pages cool

(I was actually surprised to find out it didn't exist on the wiki yet. But neither my Google-fu, not "Where is That Trope" turned up anything like it)
