Same. Even most people IRL can't tell.

The way you can tell with me is that I have a tendency to accidentally thank people in the wrong language... When visiting foreign lands of different tongue I learn the local terms for please and thank you, and I use them. But when I return to the nation of my birth I go back to speaking my native tongue, which due to asperger's resulting in me speak in a rather plain, supposedly "rude" manner as a small child I tend to forget the basic manners, the pleases and thank you's of my language. But not other languages, which I proceed to thank people in...

I'm so sorry that my avatar doesn't appear fully in the shot, but the cat was threatening the photographer.

I'm also autistic, and a bunch of other stuff.

Btw: A just bugging me question about the Assburgers episode of South Park. Did it claim that autism does not exist and that everybody diagnosed is a too dumb to live conspiratorist douchebag, or just that there are people who are like that who falsely claim to be autistic? It seemed very off to me, given the tolerance of other disorders in the show.

[up] I think it was the latter, since it turned out Cartman got what Aspergers' was wrong.

I know I posted in this thread once before, but I can't find my post it's lost in the clutter...

I have aspergers, my parents and I found out when I was 15.

Cannot tell you how much finding out about it explained about me. And my dad, too, we think he might have it as well.

I have forcibly overcome some of the larger hurdles, just by working through them. I still can't look people in the eyes, though.

I have been officially diagnosed with social anxiety and am on the end of the Autism spectrum (mild Asperger's syndrome.)

I never had a problem with eye contact or socializing of the sort, but I have been constantly driven by the need to be loved by everyone and I am, at times, shit at picking up on nonverbal cues. In addition, if I am in a room with unfamiliars and forced into conversation or put at the center of attention, I begin to have panic attacks. I have the bad habit of hugging anybody when a handshake will suffice, and I have a problem with personal space.

Yet, because of the negative connotation and number of people who self-diagnose, I do try and hide or not mention any of this, because I do not want people to believe I take no responsibility for my behavior and look for excuses.

Do not worry, I hate myself, too.

Also diagnosed with Asperger's tend to be socially withdrawn. Do try to keep it to myelf due to how the self-diagnosing internet people have made it a stigma. Don't have much else to say that hasn't probably already been said. Just checking in really.

Me. I was diagnosed in third grade after doing poorly with the teacher and other students. I was actually put together with people who were more mentally disabled in elementary school. Probably wasn't the best for me because I imitated them because I thought it was cool.

Yeah, Aspergers and the severely mentally disturbed... are not the same at all. That was not a good move on their part.

They don't have separate classes for separate mental disabilities, IIRC, so that may hvae been all they could do.

All they did for me was take me out of class during elementary school for 45 minutes of speech therapy every other day while everyone else was at recess.

Yep. Only stutter and stumble over words during presentations instead of in everyday speech. They pretty much had to teach me the difference between certain sounds. Like I would say "shit" instead of "sit" and other stuff. Speech therapy lasted until third grade.

In preschool, they put my in occupational therapy, speech therapy, and under a lot of specialized supervision because I was diagnosed when I was three.

I was in speech therapy till about... 7th grade?

I think I stopped improving at about 6th though.

I personally never thought I needed it, but I guess I did.

And people still ask where my accent is from.

I don't get asked about my "accent" anymore, but I'd been told that I sound like a robot, like an alien, and asked what country I'm from all in the past.

I was in speech therapy in Elementary school, grade 1-3, then again in Grade 6. Though I'm not autistic or anything so does that make me off topic?

I really hope I don't sound like a whinger.

On top of my Asperger's, I also have generalised anxiety disorder, which means I can't go through a day where I'm not worrying about dying or annoying everyone around me. I was diagnosed at seven, and considering most can't get properly diagnosed until eighteen, I must have been one anxious and messed-up child to have been diagnosed so young.

I've always wondered whether I had Asperger's and OCD or it was just that OCD symptoms were just a part of my Asperger's.

I pronounce a lot of words oddly, but it may be because I learned a different language first. I also pronounce words in that language oddly too, but I thought it was because I was only exposed to how young children talk as I didn't hear anyone other than my parents use said language.
