Ahh, console video games (or vidcons as I call them). the ultimate medium of expression, able to convey any emotion ranging from hatred to love, loyalty to fear, all in front of our eyes. Ah, and with lovingly crafted art, music, and the ability to control the action, vidcons are the ultimate combination of the high arts. While I tend to play the stoic, I will be the first to admit that vidcons haven driven me to cry, to scream and shout, to feel actual hate; such is the power of this force beyond our wildest reckoning. And here I am, before you, to temp your tongues with the taint of such a tantalizing topic.

And the Japanese, the true geniuses behind the world of video games. Pah, I throw my scorn upon such incompetents of the West who would mock the true art of the Japanese with 'games' such as Baldur's Gate and Madden. Perhaps it is that the West is not as intelligent as the East, but this is a matter for another day. Japan has given us such masterpieces as the Final Fantasy series, Star Ocean, Wild Arms, and of course, Arc the Lad. Yes, some of the finest vidcons in the world were created by Japanese. I come to you today to ask you in all earnesty, what is your favorite vidcon? I will reveal mine after the grand debate has illustriously begun, but not before the first poster falls victim to my plot of discussion.

In other words, this is a thread on an imaginary forum our avatars frequent. The topic can fluctuate, and its mostly just general discussion.

I'm pulling my light novel characters out of this roleplay. Now that I'm officially writing my light novel, it basically requires me to cut them out of any pre-appearances they have made in other sources to avoid publishing complications.

Hopefully the trailers actually are using sound-design thriller music. Orchestral music has been getting difficult for me to listen to due to how commonplace it is in movie trailers nowadays.

I wish you good luck on your jump into writing. Also, I have a couple of questions:

  • Does your light novel have some kind of webpage of blog so I can know when it'll be completed and published?
  • Where might I be able to find it when it's published?
  • Would avoiding publishing complications mean scrubbing your old posts that involved said characters, or will the old posts still be around here?

Alright, I'm back! Sorry, had to manually land Gil and Tarvek's shuttle.

[1] No problem! Actually, if the portal crew here can actually manage to make a safe filtering portal, then you won't even need any stabilization for the duration of your visit - the high-degree air will simply be directly filtered out of your bloodstream and lungs and be left behind by the portal. I'm not sure about the effects of long-term exposure to the local atmosphere, so I may have to look into that.

[2] No problem! Good luck with the writing.

Btw, the museum visit IRL was from 10 AM to 3 PM, so should we align ourselves with that?

Ah, good eye, Herr Rui! The picture that I am using in my profile picture is the Heterodyne seal, if you were wondering. The specific one in my profile picture is from the Mechanicsburg main gate.

The reason why it looks like a trilobite is because it is one. Just as the Roman Empire had the eagle (aquila) and House Valois had the fleur-de-lis, the House of Heterodyne has the trilobite as their symbol. You can find trilobite fossils all around the area surrounding Mechanicsburg, which is probably why my Masters chose it. In fact, they put it on almost everything they built and/or owned.

Sounds good.

I figured it must be some kind of sea animal... but since I've never seen it before, I figured it must be either very rare or extinct. Why a trilobite, of all things?

From what we can tell, it's extinct. We only have the fossils lying around.

Why a trilobite, of all things?

I'm not sure. However, there are tons of trilobite fossils in and around Mechanicsburg, which is where my Masters settled, so that probably has something to do with it.

Herr Sadok von Mekkhan thought it was chosen because House Heterodyne, like the trilobite, would leave an imprint on the world for ages upon ages, but that's speculation made five centuries after the fact.

(OOC: I'll let Stefan announce his "return" first, so that way Gil & Tarvek don't "return" when it's way too late where you live.)

In terms of the masquerade, I think "Aaron Fürst" was a good disguise-name for me. I have to give myself credit for getting people to call me "Prince" without them knowing that I'm actually a prince. Though Wulfenbach was kinda testing his limits by using "Gil Holzfäller" like he did in university.

Well, using "Gil Holzfäller" worked, didn't it?

Personally, I really liked all the sections about aircraft. It's very impressive stuff, especially since I already do a lot of work with aeronautics myself, though I haven't made anything that complex yet. Though I think Sturmvoraus might have been embarrassed, having been shown how aircraft like mine actually do work.

You'll never drop that, will you?

As for me, I found the "phone" technology really interesting. Why, with all the things I learned there, I could probably revolutionize radio-technology here all on my own!

Not if I beat you to it. Then again, there's still plenty of ideas for us to split between us, right?

I may publish it first as a web novel on sites like Fictionpress in order to give it a public platform for free viewing, but depends on the amount of progress I get done. Also, I will not be scrubbing all my posts here because that would take too much time, and frankly, ain't worth it in the end given how active this thread is.

[2] The radiology and PCB manufacturing was probably what concerned Icarus. But if you can manage to properly integrate RSA encryption into your comms channels, things might get a lot more interesting...

Well, yes, of course, we were just listing some of the many things we saw. PCB manufacturing in particular stood out to me.

(OOC: Can you plz explain in layman's terms why RSA encryption would be a big deal?)

As for RSA encryption, I agree that things would be pretty interesting if we implemented them.

RSA encryption is - I believe - one of the first public key encryption systems, invented in 1973. Let's say Alice wants to send Bob a message. With RSA, Alice can use Bob's public key to encrypt the message, but if Charlie intercepts the message, he'll have an extremely hard time decrypting it, even if he knows Bob's public key. Instead, Bob can use a private key to decrypt the message easily.
In the case of RSA, the private key is a pair of two extremely big prime numbers, and the public key is the product of the two primes. Trying to find those two extremely big prime factors turns out to be a very computationally difficult task. That's all I know about the algorithm for now, but if I can learn more about it while studying, I'll let you know.
Currently, RSA is very common, but with quantum computers, you'll soon be able to crack it easily, which is why there are a lot of new encryption methods being tested, like elliptic curve cryptography.

TL;DR: RSA encryption is hard to crack even if you can intercept the message and know the recipient's public key.

Edit: I don't know much about Girl Genius, so maybe they could have public key cryptography already?
