The only thing I know about it is that it's a prequel going into what Laura was doing prior to her death. The title hints as much.

Good to hear though.

FWWM is kind of a three-act movie. I don't think it'll spoil much if I say:

  • Act I is a kind of prequel to TP, introducing two FBI investigators who encounter some of the town's mystery shortly before the TV show's events.
  • Act II is a brief-ish, enigmatic interlude centered around Cooper.
  • Act III is the build-up to Laura Palmer's death.

Am I wrong to assume that Agent Cooper might be the funniest, most interesting character in this show as of the fourth episode?

[up] That;s a safe assumption, yes. Cooper's a great character. Kudo's to them for making a straight-shooting Dick Tracy boy scout such a cool and, frankly, powerful character.

  • "Black as midnight on a moonless night."
  • His zeal when he explains his respect for Tibetan culture and using that bizarre, mystical means of tracking down the person connected to Laura.
  • Standing up to his coworker when he wanted to keep Laura's body rather than fork it over to the funeral staff.
  • His quick deductions when it comes to just about everyone's personal life.

As dorky as he seemed at first, making audio tapes and specifying how he wants his accommodations, getting excited by coffee at every opportunity - he's my favorite character thus far.

He's eccentric, but he's also insanely competent and not to be messed with. He's not a man who fears the dark.

I always kinda liked it how quickly he's able to fall in with the Twin Peaks police. They start following Cooper's lead with no friction at all, which is pretty different from what you usually see on TV. There is considerable friction between the FBI and the local (NOT Twin Peaks) police in Fire Walk With Me; there's even a scene, cut from the final film, where Chris Isaak's FBI agent has to kick the ass of the local police chief during the Theresa Banks investigation.

[up]I think the whole point of that part of the film is that the other agents' experience on the Banks case is in many ways the polar opposite of Cooper's. The place they wind up in is pretty much Twin Peaks with all the human decency and (superficial) niceness stripped away.

I haven't seen the original first two seasons of Twin Peaks, so should i watch that first before watching the 2017 sequel?

Well, we can't know until we see the 2017 sequel ourselves, but it probably would be advisable.

Just started watching, I'm on episode 7. It's a fascinating show that captures my imagination, makes me imagine absurd and terrifying things happening in my own town. Can't wait to finish it up and watch the new season with everyone else.

I've been binge-watching the series for the past week or so as I've always heard good things about it and how influential it is, and I've always been drawn to supernatural horror - especially the Town with a Dark Secret.

It's a slow burn of a series but it gets really good partway through the first season and stays compelling halfway through the second. I've skipped a good bit of the second season though, as it was just incredibly boring and full of filler.

And yeah. Cooper is an amazing character. The same can't be said for any of the teenagers though; I always just switch to another tab whenever a scene between Donna and James and Maddy is happening, they're so colossally boring and obstructive to the more interesting things happening. As much as Twin Peaks succeeds at being a little bit of everything at once, it really shines as a supernatural procedural - and I hope this new season plays on that strength as much as possible.

Yeah, apparently Lynch and Frost were working on other projects for most of the second season, and everyone felt that it drifted quite a bit after the raid on One Eyed Jacks. For one thing, their original plan was for Laura's murder to never be actually solved, at least not until the series was supposed to end, but Executive Meddling made them solve it when they did.

In my opinion, the show really shines whenever Cooper's on screen. I didn't mind the teenagers so much, though their arc wasn't my favorite. The arc I really actively disliked was the Big Ed/ Norma/ Nadine business. It didn't seem to have anything to do with the rest of the story, and just bored the hell out of me.

Anyone catch the new episode(s) yet? Just finished the first one, things are off to a pretty ominous start. It certainly feels even more Lynchian than normal too; lots of spooky silences and still shots. It's missing a bit of that quirky charm - but this first episode had very little of Twin Peaks itself in it. Seems like a fun new mystery on the horizon though.

Well those two first episodes had a lot of interesting crap in them. Then again, so did the first two episodes of Lost.

Holy shit that was a nasty case of Death By Sex. Like, you know, it's not a good idea to be irresponsible with one's work in favor of sex, but come on, that's Disproprtionate Retribution if I ever saw that.

And yeah, there's a warmth in the original that I found missing. On the other hand, the characters are more "off" than ever: we're deep in the Uncanny Valley with everyone's performances. They look almost like bad acting, but not quite.

It's weird.

I don't know if I love it.

First I play Life Is Strange and hear about Twin Peaks. Then I watch Twin Peaks to get over Life Is Strange. Then I find out Twin Peaks is getting a revival around the same time I finish the first season. Then Life Is Strange's sequel is announced.

Life is funny.

If I knew where to watch this I'd be watching it. Guess I still got to binge Season 2 though.

Why is every wife on this show an asshole? What is Lynch's damage?

Most of the husbands are assholes, too.

Or wait, are you talking about the original series or the new one?

The new series is amazing. How is the Internet not choking with memes?

Probably because it's on a channel I can't seem to find and I have no other methods for viewing it (as of yet).

Maybe because it airs at a bad time and the ratings haven't been great?

I'unno.

I watch it on Showtime which is a bit more difficult to watch but not exceptionally difficult. It took me awhile to get the ap set up but I did. I am, however, glad to have watched it. I also watch the original series on Netflix (even though the original is also on Showtime).

I'm in a weird situation with Cooper and Janey-E. There's all sorts of wrong with their relationship but Naomi Watts is so incredibly engaging that I actually want to see them succeed. You know, despite the fact he's a semi-braindead hollow shell.

Also, I'm terrified Dopplecoop raped Audrey during her coma and is the father of Richard. That would kill any and all Audrey/Coop reconcilliation for me.

Goddamn it Netflix.

I was about to post here saying I had no idea what was going on in Season 2, Ep 8.

spoilers for anyone just starting the show, however unlikely that may be

  • Leiland has bloody fingers and clothing in his bag.
  • His reflection shows "Bob's" face.
  • Maddy apparently went missing and has been seeing vision.
  • Leiland is some kind of killer and seems to be a Stepford Smiler?

But then I realize I fell asleep last night watching Twin Peaks and Netflix continued from Episode 8, rather than Episode 5 where I left off.

Fuck.

That said, the show's still gotten pretty... bizarre. It's like a switch got flipped and all of the weirdness in Twin Peaks came out.

  • Cooper's dreams and the "giant" man, and that bizarre, elderly waiter.
  • Maddy seeing a bloody carpet and Bob, crawling towards her.
  • Pretty much anytime Bob appears.
  • The one-armed man calling out to Bob.
  • Truman's previous admission to Cooper about the "darkness" of Twin Peaks and how the Bookhouse Boys are responsible for confronting it in each generation. What did he mean?
  • I'm losing track of the web of conspiracies and the overall power structure:
    • Leo was a mule for Horne and considered expendable
    • Hankbeats him up and works for Horne and threatens Josie
      • Hank is was targeted by a man who Josie knows
    • Katherine and Horne were in bed together against Josie.
      • Except Horne was in bed with Josie.
    • Horne is in business with Blackie.
      • Blackie is using Audrey against Horne.
      • James Renault is with Blackie.
        • But Renault also wants to work with Horne.
      • Horne plans to screw over Renault but doesn't know about Blackie yt.
        • Cooper and Truman are secretly working to find Audrey.
    • Josie is using Truman
