New archetype called Tribrigade. It's a bunch of Beasts/Beast-Warriors/Winged Beasts that banish monsters from the GY to cheat Link Monsters out of the Extra Deck.

They seem to be closer to the human end of the anthro scale though

Based on the artwork of Tribrigade Line, they have a relation to the Dragma archetype.

It seems the artwork depicts Dragma group and Tribrigade group encountered each other and thought each other as enemy, but Ecclesia stopped both sides before they can start fighting.

Probably, whatever that demon was in the Dragma storyline, was actually the Tribrigade's target, hence why they came to Dragma's city?

Astral Glyph version of Hope for TCG, anyone?

Kinda funny since the fact that it uses the exact same glyph as Japanese release, means this is the only card in TCG that's actually named "No. 39 King of Wishes, Hope". It even has the Astral glyph version of the effect numbering, which was from OCG and not in the anime lol (the anime version was from way before effect numbering is a thing)

Also, Ten Thousand Dragon is in as well.

Is Salamangreat really a control deck?

Right now ? not really. They're playing OTK right now by using update jammer and Access Code Talker to otk you by using his effect to wipe your board and hit your for 5000K twice.

O.K, were they? I heard it being called that a couple of times.

When I was young, Salad OTK was the big Fusion monster I'm telling ya.

God I miss the time before Cynet Mining was a thing. A single card turned Salamangreat into a non-budget deck.

[up][up][up]Before ? Kinda, but not exaclty.

Short version : they were a mix of control and otk, with their gameplan basically being to hinder your plays enough to stop your from going off, and then capitalize on the opening to otk you when they get the chance.

Something interesting to udnerstand about salamangreat is how they're structured in the power output of the deck.

A lot of decks are tailored to have a very high power spike early on to try and crush the opposition without letting it the chance to get their own power spike off. This is what vomiting a full board of bigass monsters who have negation effects amounts to. Very strong, but if your opponnent somehow outs it, you can never reproduce that output for the rest of the duel and have to rely on backup plans.

Salads, much like some form of sky strikers, don't really do that. They have an opening board who looks pretty weak but is deceptively resistant, with basically 2 destructions and 1 universal negation, and a destruction protection. And because their deck was super consistent, they can afford to run a lot of handtraps to hinder your own plays further.

And once you've failed to OTK them, depending of how weakened the state of your board is, they either reverse-otk you by capitalizing on a simple combo capable of outputting 8K damage, or they continue the game of cat and mouse of rebuilding their board, breaking yours and trying to outresource you.

And that's where Salads is really strong - it's power output is deceptively good despite not looking as threatening as a pendulum magician board, and it can consistently output this power level at every turn. You broke it once ? it's back with a vengeance, can you break it again and kill them ? Every turn you don't kill them is a turn where they can rebuild their field.

Current metagame seem to have weakened their grind game so they're jsut going all out on the OTK playstyle.

Having a bunch of their cards on the F/L list doesn't help either.

Yeah, the world legacy lore had twists and turns even I didnt see coming; Lee being the pilot of Morning Star in the distant past and the automatan herself growing a soul to save Ib...also Lee never got redeemed, was crazy and power hungry til the end

Anyone else kind of concerned they're going to mess up the fan poll cards by just making Cyber Dragons even more powerful (and not giving some love to the other Cyber archetypes), and by just making more Ice Barrier monsters, instead of finding a way to make the existing ones work (which is entirely doable with mostly back row, as I'd figured out last page)?

The might do something jank to synergize Cyber Dragon with Cyberdark.

Ice Barriers need more pringles at least so the deck has a function, even if it's Trish turbo. More back row would be nice but it means squat if it's not supporting good monsters.

What even *is* the ice barrier gamepla? Thry have a bunch of out there effects and the extra deck monsters feel like they were on a different plane of existence.

Defensive lockdown with a minor emphasis on Swarm. The Synchros, while part of the archetype, are supposed to be the opponents, that they only bust out when they reach the Godzilla Threshold. That's why the Synchros' effects are so dissimilar from the main deck monsters, why Fusion-Trish mentions imprisonment in its name, and why Mirror of the Ice Barrier is specifically an anti-Trishula card.

For a brief overview of what are supposed to be the key cards of the playstyle, look at Defender, Prior, Strategist, General Grunard, and Medium.

Ooooh, I just had another idea. An archetypal Quick-Play version of De-Synchro, except you summon the equivalent level of monsters from your deck after you return the synchro to the extra deck. Making it once per turn to balance it. But also it gives an influx of power and the potential to get Trishula's effect TWICE.

What even *is* the ice barrier gamepla?

Option 1) Pure Ice Barriers

  • During all steps) Search stuff with Medallion.
  • Step 1) Somehow, by a miracle, fill up your graveyard (Foolish Burial and Strategist are your friends).
  • Step 2) Find out what your opponent is playing which of highly specific stun cards counters exactly that.
  • Step 3) Use Prior or General Gantala to revive the specific monster you need to counter what the oponent is doing. Defender prevents battle, General Raiho limits monster effects, Spellbreaker outright makes Spells unplayable for 2 turns, Dai-sojo and Secret Guards grants protection, Cryomancer and Warlock are monster versions of Gravity Bind and Anti-Spell Fragrance respectively. You're probably going to pick one the former three.
  • Step 4) If you're lucky enough to establish your lockdown early and/or disrupt your opponent's gameplan with your removals and negations, first you go beatdown mode and maybe summon a Synchro but don't count on that, and second you bet on the lottery.

Option 2) Dewloren Turbo

  • Step 1) Synchro Summon Dewloren.
  • Step 2) Do degenarate FTK combo of your choice.
  • If Step 2 fails A) Revive Dewloren with Prior.
  • Bonus step) Use Dai-sojo to cheat the downsides of Call of the Haunted or Safe Zone in your Dewloren plays.

Option 3) Wetlands Ice Barrier

  • Step 1) Active Wetlands and attack directly with Dewdark for 2400 damage.
  • Step 2) As far I know, there's no step 2. Just, uh, attack with Dewdark 3 more times and win. (Note: this is harder than it sounds)
