Oh I can imagine what is was like in the past (I've been in the Star Wars and Pokémon fandom for years and know firsthand of how vitriol a fanbase can really be). But even then, I still want to be optimistic about the future and not worry about jinxing Retro Studio into making a bad Prime 4 game.

If we truly remember Anthony, we would be talking about how he can appear in Prime 4 as a character/NPC.

Please no, a bad prime 4 game is something my fragile heart can't handle.

Just because people have moved on from viscerally hating other m doesn't mean people are particularly enthusiast about speculating on a game we've been shown absolutely nothing, made by a studio who hasn't produced anything ever since DKCTF.

... Woah, it's been six years. What the fuck.

I like retro studios a lot but there's nothing meaningful to discuss about the future of the series as far as I'm concerned. If you wanna talk about this, by all means go ahead, I just don't think there's much point right now. I've always found that kind of speculation uninteresting, regardless of the franchise.

And until we get to see something about prime 4, I don't see people getting particularly enthusiast about speculating. It's not a matter of looking up to the future instead of being stuck in the past, at this point.

I tend to have this paranoia that getting hyped over a number might jinxed the quality, something that stemmed from my time in the Star Wars fanbase. And I try to curb it with optimistic thoughts.

Mercury Steam did make a great Metroid game, and i did enjoy Lords of Shadow.

Maybe they might be tapped to make more Metroid.

Oh they certainly had the chops for Metroidvaina with that 3DS Lords of Shadows: Mirror of Fate. In fact, I recall that's how they got the job to remake Metroid II: Return of Samus.

You know, why not bring in Koji "IGA" Igarashi and his team to make a Metroid game? It should be fitting that if Mercury Steam got the task to make a Metroid game due to a Castlevania game, the man who made the other half of the Metroidvania genre would have a chance to make a Metroid game of their own.

Yeah, mirror of fate was a good display of a team with capabilities to make a great 2D metroid but completely held back by the design of the game's story. 3 little metrodivanias don't hold up to one normal. But the combat felt pretty tight and refined compared to Lo S 1 and you can definitely see that in Samus returns too.

I wouldn't mind seeing them do more of metroid, especially since they seem to have some pretty good ideas of things to add to samus's arsenal.

I don't know if I want iga to it, though. I like his castlevanias, don't get me wrong, but the metroidvania aspect of the games always took a backseat compared to the RPG elements and I think that "metroid but with more rpg elements" is a thing indie games have already explored a lot.

I teared up a bit reading the outline. It's great. While execution would have made all the difference anyway, I feel like this outline was at least given more thought in how it uses the actual elements, like the squad and the federation subplot.

on more recent news, Retro's still looking for more positions to fill, including... a lead producer... ?

Three years into development ? I really hope that's mostly a fancy name in the whole leadership, not someone to actually give a vision for the game.

I think they were winging it without some of those roles and the project is big enough that they need to find someone to fill the empty seats.

In Other M, one of the bosses is a King Kihunter. You fight it in the center of a Kihunter nest, which suggests its the one laying the eggs, like a queen in a real ant or bee colony would be doing. It would make a lot more sense if it was called a Queen Kihunter. What was it called in Japan? Was there a mistranslation, or did whoever named the thing make a mistake?

"King Kihunter" is a direct transliteration of the Japanese name.

Maybe they're a patriarchal eusocial colony? It's not really seen in real-life eusocial insects but there's no reason it couldn't happen.

Eh. Could just be a case of She Is the King.

Maybe whoever named it just couldn't resist the alliteration.

At this stage Samus has 3 figma: Zero Suit (Other M), Varia Suit (Other M), and Varia Suit (Prime 3). So when do we get Vanilla Power Suit, Gravity Suit, or Phazon Suit?

Funnily enough, the one thing closest to an eusocial king is the Alien Queen; she technically impregnates other beings, which is how males work in the strict and very basic biological sense.
