In Finnish: "Osoita, että jos 0 < a < 1, niin yhtälöllä x^3 - x^2 - x + a = 0 on ainakin yksi juuri välillä ]0, 1[."

And the answer is "Funktio f(x) = x^3 - x^2 - x + a on jatkuva välillä [om 1] ja arvot f(+) ja f(1) ovat erimerkkiset"

Anyway, this course's teacher is trying out thing where if you have done less than 30 percent of homework, you won't pass the course at all, if you have 90%, you get max points in exam exercise with least points -_-; So yeah, its kinda important for me to do them at all since this teacher has habit of giving crapton "easy" homework each time...

Let a = 1. Then there is a root at 1.

Let 0 < a < 1, exclusive. Then f(0) > 0 and f(1) < 0. There exists a root by the intermediate value theorem, which states that if f(a) < f(b), there exists c: a < c < b such that for any d: f(a) < d < f(b), f(c) = d.
