I get it
Literally 4 out of 7 FE characters play the same, with the 4th one's only difference being to share a move with a 5th FE character. That sucks, and the fact it got this much is very underwhelming (even after taking into account that 2 out of 4 have gotten the 'Echo Fighter' label).
But
There's still 3 other playstyles in this one franchise, and if a new character gets in, even if they're stuck to the most generic option possible (which is still this whip sword apparently??? I'm a dunce in regards to this game lol), there's more than enough room to give him his own moveset and playstyle.
But it's funny to meme more Marths
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniByleth also has strength in Brawling, so those moves can be integrated into a potential moveset.
And their Final Smash would probably be a Gambit, rather than an Aether or Critical Hit clone.
I think Byleth would be a mix of Roy and Robin. His whip sword would function like Robin's Levin Sword. When all the uses are used up, Byleth takes out the gauntlets and becomes a short-ranged powerhouse.
It's been 3000 years…Is that how it works in the game?
Because I don't see why it'd work like that in Smash...
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Btw, is Byleth popular in both genders or is one of them preferred over the other?
Just asking because everyone kinda agrees Female Corrin is superior to the male one.
Uni catBy that logic, Captain Falcon should only be represented as the Blue Falcon, the Pokemon should be limited to only four moves, and Ness and Lucas would only have buffs, debuffs, and healing as their special moves.
From what I've seen, they're well-liked pretty equally.

It's been 3000 years…I doubt brawling would be used for Byleth at all. Unless it's story-relevant (like Corrin) or a notable quirk of the character (like Robin), Sakurai usually completely ignores characters' secondary weapons.
This song needs more love.By any logic...
From Smash 4: It either works most identical to the origin game or it doesn't function at all like it does in order to be a useful ability in Smash.
Secondary mechanics are inspired by how they work in teh game or they're that mechanic in name only.

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Ruptured Heaven seems more likely, unless they just tone it down into a regular B-Special.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I forgot that was a thing, to be honest. I very jealously guard my Relics’ durability.
I picked a Gambit because the Battalions are pretty unique to Three Houses.
Finally got around to buying the Fighter Pass! Woo!
Byleth has a unique class which, unlike every other class except Dancer, can use both magic and gauntlets while being geared toward swords. It would make sense for them to be like Robin, using both melee and magic attacks.
Ukrainian Red CrossThe character who invented said unique class is shown in the game's intro cutscene beating an evil demigod to death with her bare Godly fists, so it's definitely thematically appropriate. It's unfortunate that gauntlets are nowhere near the best weapon Byleth has access to, though.
I would love to see Byleth with a more out-there moveset (like the absolutely-a-joke Pokemon Trainer idea, where Byleth stands in the background and swaps out between Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude), but Fire Emblem characters are already not popular, and the last really out-there FE character still seems like a hate sink, when people even remember Corrin exists at all.
It's been fun.Considering Corrin ranks pretty high on popularity polls (yes, even Male Corrin, though he doesn't have the same popularity as the Female Corrin), I'm fairly certain people still remember and like them.
On the subject of DLC fighters, honestly, while I do have characters I would love to see in Smash, ultimately I hope that whoever gets in makes their fans happy.

A friend asked me yesterday as a joke what the meta is right now, and I realized I have no idea. What is the current tier list?
I think it's Peach/Daisy, Fox, Joker or Pikachu at the very top with Olimar as a sleeper top tier
There isn't really a clear top tier like previous games. At least not until all DLC is out. We might get a Bayo level character perhaps
Uni catThere isn't a strict one even now.
Early on Wolf was really popular and everyone ran him, but now there's a pretty diverse array of characters people play. The best player in the world uses Joker, but he's pretty much the only person in the west succeeding with him.
Apparently they don't list the characters for smash ultimate's rankings yet but for the most part everyone seems to use someone different. ZSS is probably the most consistent character.

Speaking of DLC, apparently current word is that Scott Menville is tweeting about a secret VA project, which Smash Twitter is of course interpreting as Lloyd Irving being character #5.
Not spoiler-tagging because it’s pure speculation.
It was multiple factors that got FE characters being in some hate. 4 had quite a lot added within a single game, and it took up two DLC slots as well(which considering we got 7 characters, that's actually a big ratio). Some were salty Chrom was ignored till Ultimate, but also the fact they went out of their way to make the character look bad twice in 4(which if anything, made him easier to add in Ultimate. He got in due to popularity, but pity votes likely were there too) with the trailer and Viridi's mocking of him. Lucina getting in first didn't help when she was "too similar to another character", though that had clear context(she was a costume first, something Chrom wasn't), but not everyone paid attention to the context. You still have only 2/3 of the Awakening main characters/protagonists, which didn't help either. Might as well finish off the cast. It's one thing to have the most unique of the 3 choices alone, it's another to leave one out. Ultimate getting only Chrom was a pretty sweet thing as it was an easy addition and it even have him use a variation of Aether, which is what Viridi made fun of him for in the first place.
But yeah, Corrin is a mixed bag, but still has a ton of popularity as is. Also, being the only advertisement-related character since Roy did not help. Doesn't help that Ultimate's newcomers sometimes borders on advertisement in the way that they're presented it as(though there's some context we're likely missing. Like timing-wise, Hero was probably chosen with the face of Luminary simply because they're going to be the most relevant and easy to sell due to being the latest version of the character. SE advertising the hell out of it was probably because of that particular Hero being chosen for Smash, not the other way around. They didn't heavily advertise it till after the FP was chosen too...). Joker on the other hand really wasn't advertisement-related at all, since his game is not coming to the Switch. A spin-off, yes. B&K are a unique one, as they were actually part of advertisement quite a bit from Microsoft as of late, but that's mainly the merchandise, which was probably made to make them even more aware of other than the Rare Replay stuff, which also makes them easier to sell via DLC. Terry on the other hand doesn't really have much of that. Among the base cast, none of them are really tied to advertising either, just relevancy. Incineroar isn't there to advertise the new game. That's already out(and has been for a significant while). It's there to compliment the latest new games and being interesting. Isabelle is the funny one, since she's not there to advertise New Horizons, but her trailer was made with that in mind.
Another thing is the silly anime swordsman complaints(they aren't anime to begin with). Artstyle, they of course have some similarities, but being from the same franchise would do that. Two FE characters are outright clones, and one used to be a clone(which led to the meme of stacking Roy, Lucina, and Chrom under Marth), so the variety hasn't been kind. FE has multiple weapons types and all. So more variety would be nice too.
That would be weird considering he is not his current voice, according to the character page at least.
Smash fans always take any "secret" project as being smash related
Uni catx4 That list said it's for WiiU, but I have been .

I mean Scott Menville isn't the voice of Lloyd anymore.

This song needs more love.Yeah I was about to bring that up
I can't think of a good signature so it will be this for nowAccording to behind the voice actors, his last appearance was voiced by Brian Beacock
I can't think of a good signature so it will be this for now
I mean, the only characters who fight like Marth are his derivatives, everyone else fights unique.
