I prefer to see it as Wriggle's consciousness leaps between insects, taking command of a new body each time.
'Butterfly #2245376, you have been chosen as the next host of our GLORIOUS QUEEN!'
'Do I get a choice in this?'
'No. Come now 2245376, this is a GREAT HONOUR! HAIL QUEEN NIGHTBUG! HAIL QUEEN NIGHTBUG!'
(One ceremony later)
'Ahhhh...much better. Butterflies are always so limber. Look! I can put my legs behind my head!'
'Astounding, Your Majesty.'
'At least TRY to sound enthusiastic. Furthermore, you're a stinkbug. No-one cares about snark from a stinkbug.'

Heart of StoneI wasn't thinking she was necessarily like a hive insect. I guess I had a bit of What Measure Is a Non-Human? going on, which I'll admit makes no sense for her. If she didn't care about her own life, it wouldn't be because of hive-mindedness, but because, as the Insect Queen, her perspective is different. There are millions of bugs all over Gensokyo and thousands die every day; that's okay, that's nature. She just has to ensure that Insect-kind as a whole can survive and thrive.
As interesting as the "Wriggle can respawn as other insects/Wriggle can body hop to other insects" idea or whatever that was is, how would that even make sense? Can she use her powers to manipulate an insect into becoming a clone of herself? Why would she want to stop being an awesome/pretty firefly anyway?
I don't think Wriggle worries about things like "succession" or anything like that. Gaining a resistance to insecticides for her and her followers seems to be the only concern she has now? (She might get bored and move on to something else later anyway)
Wriggle is, to me at least, a very easy going youkai.

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Heh.
I see her as pretty easy going too.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell, the body surfing is based on "insect = hive insect" even more so than the idea that she doesn't value her life as much. The idea is that Wriggle's... being is sort of a transcendental thing that is at the center of insectkind, I guess. Not even necessarily in the "hivemind" sense, but possibly in a Buddhist sense that says that everything is one.
Speaking of being reborn...
Also, kicking it with the best of them.◊
(Old pictures that I think I drew during Wriggle's discussion in the previous thread.)
How did I know that something like that would appear before I click the link?
That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals. Its hideous! ... The monstrous vermin, I mean. Faw art is always unhideous and appreciated. Also, I guess we all know why Wriggle wears pants now.
Is that a reference to that One Piece guy?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYes, yes it is.
So Sanji is now a bug?

That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.Wriggle is now a cook?
Wriggle is a pirate?
Don't diss her cooking skills.

That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals. She was in a past life, when she was a waterstrider!
Okay, I don't seriously think she reincarnates like that in canon Gensokyo, but it might be a fun interpretation for my own.
Awesome things that Wriggle does: Interrupting Youmu's badass boast.
Wriggle: All this talk is wasting my time!
Wriggle cares not for your boastful speechs. She has things to do! (She just doesn't know what they are yet!)
Anyway, nice art Faw! Although I always envisioned the Wriggle Kick Thingy as more of a diving kick for some reason. (Also, I didn't get the one piece reference until I read the other posts)
So, Wriggle.

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Get a Wriggle On!
Hmm... I smell something suspicious...
Wriggle Nightbug had spontaneously noticed a bizarre scent emanating from the direct of the Bamboo Forest of the Lost. Wriggle, being the self-appointed Queen of the Insect Realm (as Well as the Several Species of Arachnid that Humans Lump in with Them as "Bugs"), considered investigating potential new threats to her peoples a sacred duty, and, thusly, went after this strange new scent's source.
As the Queen took to the air above the Bamboo Forest, she could feel the smell growing in intensity- that's what her antennae are for, you know!
*Ahem*- The scent was decidedly unpleasant at this point, and was also decidedly coming from Eientei, near the center of the Forest. Wriggle stopped for a moment to practice her midair slouches, and then proceeded towards the House of Eternity.
"Master, what is this liquid?"
"Ah, Udongein! This is a bug spray that I just came up with! It can repel or kill any kind of pest...
Wriggle was shocked, SHOCKED, by this blatant affront towards her people! A sickening liquid for killing the innocent! This had to be put to an end, and so she would end it.
Wriggle flew to the roof above the room that rabbit and that would-be mass-murderer, who where thankfully located in a room on the outside of the house.
The Bright Light Shining in the Dark took a few deep breaths, gathered her thoughts, and preformed an insane midair u-turn whilst crashing trough the window.
"Wriggle Kick!"
"-Master! Look out!"
The moon rabbit Reisen threw herself into the path of the enraged martial insect and the lunar nurse.
She was flattened.
"Ah, a bug for me to test this stuff out on... Now, where's I leave my spray bottle?... Udongein! You misplaced my bottle, didn't you?... Well, I guess there's only one thing left to do..."
"Ah, no, please Master, anything but that! We still have a bug infestation!"
"Ah, yes, how could... I... Forget..."
In the time it took for the two moon natives to banter, Wriggle had summoned a thousand bees to hold them off, just long enough to-
"Hey, what're you doing with that?! I spent two and a half hours getting that spray cooked up!"
"Ahhhh! Not again... No, please, not again! Master, save me..."
"Shh, it'll be alright, Undongein. You win today buggy, but this will be your only victory against-
"Hey, Wriggle! You sure you ain't makin' this up?"
Cirno, the Unnatural Chill, gazed long and hard at her friend.
"Positively! Now, as I was saying..."
Story night continued for the five young youkai, and Wriggle was asked many, many questions.
"But there all true, absolutely!" the insect would say.
And that night, Rumia's respect for bugs grew three sizes.
"You're so cool, Wriggle!"
"Eh, well, you know. I just tell things that happened to me!"
In case any of you are wondering, Wriggle's adding in things, in a sort of inversion of her claim of forgetting the Insect News Service. Sometimes, she tries to make herself look cooler by... altering the outcomes of scraps.
EDIT: I forgot to mention this, but she's more or less seeing how far she can stretch the truth when talking to her new buddies.
And that the first few bits, up until the Wriggle Kick, really did happen to her.

I sure said that! That was pretty alright, I thought it was entertaining at least. I personally don't see Wriggle as the type to boast or try to "alter" the truth to look cool, instead coming off as cool because of how chill she is even as she fails, but I won't fault you for your interpretation.
I do kinda like how her story kinda "broke down" in the end there.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Its certainly an interesting interpretation of what I assume is the events of that Inaba chapter. I don't know if Wriggle would make stuff up like that but if she would, then impressing Team 9 that she's inexplicably a part of might be a situation where she would.
Okay, so, Wriggle doesn't get many comics that I can remember outside of Yuuka/Wriggle stuff. I guess I'll post a random one or three just to cover that angle.
Kujira Lorant's Yuukarin Comic starring Wriggle! Unfortunately!
Angeltype's Nightbug and Flowerland. Well, the color pages are alright at least.*
Food Cycle Team's Goth Mystia vs Princess Wriggle. Obligatory.
Yaminoagito's Spring Colors. Contains some anime anatomy nudity. Beware. More of a Lily White comic really but I'm scraping the barrel with Wriggle.
Yoshio's Wriggle and Yuuka comic. Well, its less terrible than the other one.
A random Mystia Wriggle comic.
i- -i's Footsteps and Melancholy of Wriggle. Even the SFX conspires against her.
Junda's Green hair in one hour RinnosukeXWriggle. Apparently a one-hour challenge comic but it ships Rinnosuke and Wriggle. Dubya tee eff, mate?
Tohnifun's Wriggle vs the SDM. Wriggle is fed up with being a mocked stage 1 boss so decides to destroy everything forever. But mostly just the SDM. And Remilia is a wuss. Its Tohnifun so don't expect anything beyond ridiculously epic fight scenes.
And that's all I can think of. Wriggle doesn't get much good fan attention. Mostly just shipping. Most of the portrayals of her are a satellite character to either Yuuka or Team 9. Its kind of a waste of such a boss midair sloucher.
Hijiribe warnings as applies.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersMandatory addition to Yuuka/Wriggle stuff:
The character design is neat enough that I don't mind the shipping somewhat.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWriggle is so totally whipped....
That awkward moment where Kyoro is one of Satan's Generals.Have we already talked about what kind of relationship Wriggle/Yuuka would have? Also: Is yuuka being a sadist canon or is it fanon like tenshi being a masochist?
Doing nothing is a choice.I don't think we really discussed the Yuuka/Wriggle shipping other than to mention that it exists.
And Yuuka being a sadist has the exact same level of canonical support that masochist Tenshi has. The flimsiest. Although, she does think genocide is just a game.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell, when you're calmly creepy and quite possibly bloodthirsty at the same time, being a sadist seems to come pretty naturally with that.
Yuuka is a blood knight and a creep, through "sadist" seems to be just the fandom super exaggerating again.
Honestly, I have no clue how a Yuuka/Wriggle couple would work. Yuuka is either picking fights for the lolz or just casually hanging out among the sunflowers, while Wriggle is either just chilling, casually flying around, and/or ordering the bugs to do something. It probably would be a lot more boring than fandom makes it out to be.
If Yuuka is a sadist, than most of youkaidom are sadists then. What she does, fight/kill and cause people to fear her, are what most youkai do, abit in different ways. Well, they used to at least. She is a very youkai like youkai. (Akyuu said it! It's true!) Or would "old fashioned youkai" be better? But I am getting off topic.

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.It's also established that she says stuff like that to get a reaction out of people.
Heart of Stone
I would think Wriggle cares about her life... There's this strange equivocation of "insect" to "hive insect" which kinda ignores all the billions of other insects who fight for their lives with everything they've got.
