No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Not gonna lie, I kind of want to own one of those new Be'lakor models, to collect and paint lol.

Honestly haven't played 40k in years (early 2015 was my last game) but I do like collecting the models here and there. GW really has upped their game the last several years.

(also remembered I have a Sister squad and a Retributor box I still need to build)

Pre-Order News

It’s still a pretty weird time for anyone making physical products and shipping them around the globe. There are loads of fantastic things on the way over the next few months, but we have to make some changes to when the next batch of incredible Warhammer releases come out, and we wanted to keep you up to date with everything that’s going on.

Everyone at Games Workshop is working really hard to get all of your orders to you in good time so you can continue to enjoy your Warhammer hobby, whether that’s via games-workshop.com or forgeworld.co.uk, your Warhammer store, or a friendly local gaming centre. With this in mind, over the next couple of weeks, there will be a short pause where we’ll have no new pre-orders. Have no fear, though – new releases will be coming your way before you know it.

In the meantime, we’ll have loads of great content every day here on Warhammer Community to slake your hobby thirst. Here’s a taste of what you can expect over the next seven days:

  • A look at the bold heroes and terrifyingly spiky villains from a forthcoming Warhammer animation
  • Big model reveals for Warhammer 40,000 AND Warhammer Age of Sigmar
  • Expert advice on dominating the Mortal Realms with aelf armies in Metawatch

You can also order books 31-35 in The Horus Heresy series in hardback next week as part of Black Library’s Print on Demand service – perfect for completing your collection.

I still doubt I will have caught up with my backlog of sourcebooks that I have to read by then.

Another new Ork

ow, I’z been ‘earin that some of you boyz ‘av been getting yer teef kicked in by them big Beast Snagga gitz. Oi! I don’t care ‘ow much of a laff that is, I wanna know wot makes them boyz so tuff. Get the ‘oomies back on da case, dey figgered out da squighog stuff in dis reg’lar feature last time, right? Wot’s a reggiler feature anyway? Zog it, you ladz make my ‘ed ‘urt…

The Beast Snaggas might be well known for riding into battle on the backs of various squig species, but some delight in bringing their targets down on their own two feet. Banding together into large mobs of Beast Snagga Boyz, these ferocious fighters can often be found crashing into the monsters brought down by their stikka-lobbing comrades and hacking their tough hides to pieces.

A (relatively short) lifetime of hunting huge, dangerous beasts has made these Orks particularly large and strong in comparison with regular Boyz. While they’re not quite as durable as a Nob, they can certainly swing their choppas just as hard, which makes them especially prone to lording it over the Boyz they charge alongside.

Although the Beast Snaggas’ adherence to the old ways of Orky culture makes them an ideal fit for the equally traditionalist Snakebites, they can be found across almost every clan. While other greenskins might see them as a bit weird, no one will turn down a few extra bodies in a fight, and it can be a good laugh seeing the Beast Snagga Boyz trying to harpoon giant tanks.

As if they weren’t tough enough already, the frequent and plentiful injuries that come as part of any career in squig-wrangling mean frequent trips to the Dok, and by necessity Beast Snagga Doks are some of the most ‘creative’ around. Thankfully, we haven’t had a reason to catch a look at one up close just yet, but surely they can’t be any worse than Ghazghkull’s personal sawbones…

Are you looking to start up your own Waaagh! in preparation for the Beast Snaggas’ arrival? Begin your green tide today with the Start Collecting! Orks set, then fill it out with whatever you fancy, be it more Boyz, a Boss Mob, or even a hulking Gorkanaut. We’ll be back in two weeks with another bit of reconnaissance.

I like the lizard skin on his back.

I really like the look of the Beast Snaggas, how they combine Orks and Savage Orcs. If they won't be sold with many figs in a box, then I could replicate the same style by kitbashing a box of Ork Boyz and Savage Orruks.

Grammar issues aside, does anyone else think the Fatal Flaw entry that was added to the T'au page is, well, wrong?

Fatal Flaw: Idealism - no, not Wide Eyed Idealism, plain Idealism. For all the amazing feats the T'au have pulled off, they are pointedly in a setting way to cynical for them. The T'au assume that all the superstitions that other races have are just superstitions, that they can guide those races away from said superstitions through the light of reason and the might of technology, and build a society where everyone benefits. The Imperium attempted this about ten thousand years agos, and the conflict that occurred when the Gods and Daemons were revealed as real rendered the Imperium a Vestigial Empire until the events of the Dark Imperium, and have put Chaos on the ascent ever since. The T'au assume all of these tales are exagerations of some more logical story and carry on blindly toward their doom as a result. Later editions shift this into Blind Obediance for the Greater Good - the T'au have started to catch on to the fact that Gods and Daemons are real, but they're too devoted in their ideology to question the Ethereals, or attempt to apply their scientific expertise toward figuring out a way to defeat Chaos (which they probably could, if they were willing to treat Chaos as a magical force and work with that).

I can see why someone would list this entry and think it was ok, but I think that Fatal Flaw is a bit more serious than one blind spot that hasn't bit them in the ass that much yet.

Plus, they're not nearly as idealistic as that person seems to think. The Tau are basically putting on a front when in reality they're just as tyrannical as the Imperium. Forced sterilization, what's implied that they're doing to the Vespid, the Ethereals doing their best to try and exert absolute control over everything...

The forced sterilization is one of the most annoying pervasive memes about the Tau. Assuming you mean of Gue'vesa, it was present in all of one optional and non-canon ending to Dawn of War. Nowhere else is it referenced, but people love to trot it out presumably to show that the Tau are just as bad as the Imperium, which they're most definitely not. The Tau Empire is absolutely a totalitarian, segregated oligarchy by our standards, and an unsustainable bubble at best by 40k standards, but it's still ironically one of the best places to live if you're a human, let alone a Tau. In terms of quality of life, it's not even a contest. Sure, you hold no political power and Imperial humans will probably try to kill you on sight, but it beats working 20-hour days in a hive world and dying of exhaustion at 28.

The T'au as a whole do seem to appreciate the Gue'vesa. Enough so that they took steps to protect them when the Fourth Sphere Expansion T'au survivors took levels in xenophobia after their time in the Warp and started killing the Gue'vesa.

I mean the Caste system isn't great either. Either way, the main weakness of the T'au as a faction is that they are small and new fish in a big pond of sharks.

They are also stuck in their end of the pond because their FTL travel isn't as fast as Warp travel or the Webway.

Yeah. The only reason they haven't been wiped out by the Imperium is because there are many other, bigger, more important threats. A concerted effort that is allowed to keep at it for long enough would undoubtedly destroy them.

I agree that that Fatal Flaw example is heavily flawed.

On another issue, was the page split that ~Yukianesa recently undertook discussed at all as they don't seem to have done it correctly (they left the A to H page at https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Warhammer40000/W40kTropesAToH, despite the fact that it now finishes at D). I am also sure that some things could have been removed from that page due to inaccuracy and duplication to cut its length before such a split (as I had been doing on and off before my grammar suspension).

As the guy who put in the fatal flaw in the first place, I think you all have good points. Though, do the T'au have an actual Fatal Flaw? Their idealism is listed as such on the main Fatal Flaw page, but I don't quite think it fits.

[up]Willful ignorance. Anything and everything that does fit their worldview is simply insufficiently analyzed; the Tau believe they can fully understand and conquer a universe that includes the Warp, and all evidence to the contrary is ignored or dismissed. What the Tau are is what the poor saps with boots on the ground were when the Emperor was spreading the Imperial Truth-clearly, empirically, and disastrously wrong in how they perceive the universe. The Tau are what happens when one of the factions gets a ridiculous string of lucky breaks; they get too big for their britches, and are set up to Fall.

Of course, since their are still selling miniatures, this is not going to happen in the fluff; unless their sales tank hard enough over a long enough span to get Squat'ed.

I don't think they need to have such an entry. I don't think they even do have a singular flaw big enough to be considered that trope. Their basic premise is that they're a sci-fi faction who should be in a far more idealistic setting - maybe Wrong Genre Savvy - but their main flaws are sorta spread out between their idealism, their relative size compared to other factions, some unique lapses in technology because of their genetics, and their relative ignorance to how the universe really works.
