You Are Better Than You Think You Are / MoringMark - TOH Comics

Go To

  • After a drunk Boscha calls herself a loser nobody wants to be around, Amity tells her she's cool when she isn't being mean and tells Boscha to treat people a bit better. Boscha seems to take it under consideration.
  • After Willow wins a grudgby game and Boscha reveals she's jealous of her for having everything she doesn't (friends who care about her, being skilled in a track she likes and talent in grudgby), Willow tells her that she has charisma, natural leadership skills and that Boscha will achieve something great by being the best of herself.
  • In this comic, after Palisman Adoption Day, Luz is feeling down about how she doesn't know what kind of witch she is and how she might not be cut out for it. Eda then points out she is a better witch than she realizes in multiple ways, prompting Luz to shed Tears of Joy.
  • In this comic, Amity is asked to comfort a miserable Luz who is blaming herself for Hunter being in danger and teaching Philip/Belos a new glyph; after Luz starts to claim she's doomed everyone, Amity gives her a Cooldown Hug and points out that far from ruining things, Luz has improved the lives of Eda, Lilith, King, Hooty and Amity herself, more than likely saved Hunter by getting him away from Belos and Amity has no doubt that Luz is the key to defeating Belos...and she'll be with her every step of the way.
  • Willow quotes the trope word for word in this comic after learning that Hunter's gloves hide the scars of his failed first mission as the Golden Guard, as he'd spent hours digging himself and his squad out of a collapsed cave. When Hunter focuses on the failure of the mission itself, Willow points out that he saved people's lives that day.
  • Though Luz doesn't tell Amity about her guilt over having aided Philip in meeting the Collector, Amity clearly can see the parallels in between Luz's emotional state and her interpretation of Azura when the Good Witch is fooled by the story's villain and talks of how Azura was a good, kind-hearted person who helped truly good people, providing an indirect example of this trope.
  • When Luz and Hunter express their self-loathing misgivings about having helped Philip meet the Collector and being a grimwalker clone of Belos' brother respectively, the rest of the Hexsquad assure them that they are not at fault for either of those things. Though for Belos, they don't even allow him to make his case.
  • When Luz claims becoming a glyph teacher would make things worse, the Hexsquad holds an intervention at Camila's request to remind her of all the good that she did for them to get her to accept how awesome she is. It's a lot to take in, but Luz is brought to tears from everyone's praise.
  • Amity tells the truth about who she was to Camila, who commends her for becoming a better person. However, Amity questions whether or not she really has changed for the better, seeing herself possibly as a person who still does things for herself, or to save someone she cares about. Camila however, dismisses the notion, pointing out that she took the effort to restore her friendship with Willow when she could have left it at an apology and chose to state her mind to her parents when she could have just rescued Luz. Camila also concludes that while Luz was the inciting action for Amity's change, she did the rest herself, and that she is not wearing any mask at all. That she is very much the real Amity. At these words, Amity proceeds to wipe a tear from her eye.
  • At the Artist Alley, Luz comes across someone who isn't confident in the art they've made. Telling them about how she used to seek everyone's approval but her own, Luz tells them they're good enough now and gives them a light glyph as a good luck charm as a reminder to tell themselves they're doing great.
  • When Hunter meets Gilbert and Harvey, he immediately tells him that he's a Grimwalker of a human with a spotty past, the two help reassure Hunter that he is his own person.
  • As Ayzee talks down on herself for her lack of magic, Luz stops her and apologizes for not talking about her condition which led to her lack of magic. Before facing off against Grom again, Luz gives her daughter some encouragement and advice;
    Luz: I believe you'll achieve whatever you set out to do. Go for it,and make us proud—wait, no. Make yourself proud. Okay?
    Ayzee: [wipes away her tears] I'll try.
