YMMV / X-Men: Blue

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: Jimmy Hudson is surprisingly cool about the idea of having basically lost everyone he ever knew, by being in another universe. He doesn't have any qualms about working with Magneto either (don't forget that, in the Ultimate universe, Magneto was way more evil and ruthless than mainstream Magneto ever was). Justified in that he has amnesia.
  • Base-Breaking Character: The reveal in issue 1 of Blue that Jimmy Hudson has crossed over into the main Marvel universe from Ultimate has stirred debate among the fans. Particularly questions over the fact he's joining an increasingly crowded number of much more popular Wolverine-type characters. X-23 fans particularly are frustrated, as despite being the current Wolverine of the main Marvel 'verse she's currently locked out of any team book appearances.
    • X-Men Red eventually fixed that last complaint.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel:
    • The preceding volumes of All-New X-Men polarised readers with their concept and writing. By contrast, X-Men Blue received consistently positive reviews for its character work, storytelling and art.
    • The series is also viewed more positively than Cullen Bunn’s previous Magneto-centric work, Uncanny X-Men (2016), which is generally regarded as being decent but uneven and coincided with a particularly egregious Audience-Alienating Era for the X-Men as a whole.
  • Unexpected Character: No one expected Jimmy Hudson, Ultimate Quicksilver, Ultimate Armor, Guardian and Mach II to turn up. Same for Bloodstorm from Mutant X.
