  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: This movie (Specifically, the 1940 version) was huge in China. It has the fortune of entering Chinese market when China started their economic and political reforms in the 1980s. As a result, a lot of classic foreign films entered into Chinese market en masse. The fact that Vivien Leigh starred in also-popular Gone with the Wind certainly helped, as did the its main theme song "Auld Lang Syne". The movie was popular in China enough that its title translation made some connections with some Chinese legends, and the movie was distributed in a lot of schools as English learning materials.
