YMMV / Vs. RetroSpecter

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Despite only getting one song with no extra gimmicks, Sakuroma has quickly become a fan favorite, to the point that RetroSpecter himself jokes that she took the spotlight from him in his own mod. Of course, since she is the Sin of Lust, it makes sense that she'd gain a huge following.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • In the Minus Wrath week, Metro asks Maku to take over for him for Preppy in spite of her insistence that she can't sing. At the end of the song, everybody is surprised at how well she did and assures her that she is an amazing singer with Metro even inviting her to sing with him for Overtime.
    • Most instances, Boyfriend's opponent ends up being a Sore Loser and makes further attempts to humiliate and/or kill Boyfriend. For Minus Wrath week, Metro actually ends up being a good sport for a majority of the game, only hurting Boyfriend when he corrects his English too many times. After "Overtime", he even tells Boyfriend that he had fun, and he and Maku suggest they sing together more often. They even offer some other activities afterward.
    • In some of the Alternative cutscenes in the Main Week, we see Retro's softer side, specifically around Ace showing how much that they care about each other.
    • The story around "Icebreaker" revolves around Retro in his Zerktro form trying to talk Ace through his own stress-induced One-Winged Angel form. In the cutscene after beating the song, the two take a moment to have a heart-to-heart about why they love each other, ending with an image of the two back to their original forms sitting contentedly next to each other while looking out at the city.
      • "Icebreaker" itself is a meta example, as the song was created as a surprise for Kamex's 25th birthday in response to his believing that Ace's Iceolation form couldn't be modded into the game. His reaction, seen in Retro's showcase video, was rather appropriate.
  • That One Level: Fully intentional example with "Ectospasm", from the note speed to the abundance of poison notes to the notes going invisible unless you hit the crystal notes. As if that wasn't bad enough, playing "Apocalypse" difficulty will make the song even faster! RetroSpecter himself even stated that the reason the song is called "Ectospasm" is because you will have a spasm while playing the song!
