- Audience-Alienating Era: Quite a few would say this about the E-Force era and others would say this about at least some of the Jason Newsted era.
- Growing the Beard: War and Pain and Rrröööaaarrr are not bad albums per see, but Killing Technology is usually regarded as the point the band started to get really good and made themselves a truly unique band in the thrash realm. The increasingly Progressive Rock-influenced directions of Dimension Hatröss and Nothingface arguably represent further beard growing as well as a peak for the band's popularity. After some slumps, some see that this happened again in the 2000s, first with Infini and then again with Target Earth.
- Signature Song: The cover of "Astronomy Domine" is probably the best contender. "Voivod" or "Tribal Convictions" are probably the runner-ups.
- So Bad, It's Good: The music video for "Ravenous Medicine". It heavily draws from Medical Horror, featuring such things as a doctor holding a chainsaw while wearing a hockey mask, another doctor with a syringe literally filled with AIDS and band members interacting with drawings made by the band's drummer, Away.
- Vindicated by History: The reception towards Phobos has been much warmer in the years since its release.
