YMMV / Transformer

  • Epic Riff:
    • With Mick Ronson on board, you know the album is full of these. "Vicious" and "Hangin' 'Round" are just a couple.
    • The bass line on "Walk on the Wild Side".
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: From a radio promo: "In the midst of all the make believe madness, the mock depravity, and the pseudo-sexual anarchists, Lou Reed is the real thing." That's right, Transformer - the one produced by David Bowie.
  • Suspiciously Similar Riff: Lou has pointed out that "Vicious" is essentially "Sweet Jane" played backwards.
  • Signature Song: Well, this album contains indeed several of Reed's best-known songs, such as "Perfect Day", "Satellite of Love" and "Vicious", but Reed's biggest hit and overall most famous song is "Walk on the Wild Side".
  • Tough Act to Follow: The album's success became an albatross around Reed over the years, with his later works being continuously caught in the shadow of Transformer (this being after he had already spent a great deal of time trying to pull himself out of the shadow of the Velvet Underground). The creation of the ever-infamous Metal Machine Music in 1975 is even speculated to be at least partly the culmination of Reed's frustrations with the sheer weight Transformer held over the rest of his career.
