YMMV / Touhou Kouryuudou ~ Unconnected Marketeers

Go To

  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome:
    • Most people will either play Reimu or Sanae, mostly the latter. The problem is that Marisa isn't really great at anything, and while Sakuya has a lot of potential on paper, the time needed to learn to use her effectively and skill required to make the most out of her mean almost no one can be arsed to go through the trouble when they could just play Sanae and get it over with.
    • Due to the game's severe power penalty upon death and the low rate at which you get power items, almost every player (outside of a no death run) will add to their starting deck as soon as possible either the tanuki (which prevents power from going below 3), Megumu's card (an active card that gives you a full power level when used) or at the very least Koishi's hat (which halves the power lost when you die).
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Western fans often refer to Mike as "Michael" as a Fan Given Name, because of the obvious (but unintentional) spelling similarity with the English nickname despite the pronunciation being completely different.
    • Megumu is often referred to as "Blue Aya" due to her similarities to Aya's character design and her predominantly blue color scheme.
    • The nameless giant yin-yang orb miniboss in Stage 4 is sometimes called "Jimbo" by the Western fandom. According to some fans, this name is a combination of "Yin" (from yin-yang) and "Jumbo".
  • Love to Hate: Tsukasa is part of the incredibly small group of genuinely evil characters in the series, an unrepentant scammer who destroys people's lives for profit and backstabs both halves of the Big Bad Duumvirate for no apparent reason. She's also the most popular member of this game's cast precisely for these reasons.
  • Low-Tier Letdown:
    • Marisa. She has limited range as usual, but she isn't strong either this time around. In the demo, she was actually strong, but the game was very unbalanced and ZUN proceeded to buff everything (enemies, shots, cards) in order to balance things out for the full game's release... except he forgot to update Magic Missile's damage, leaving it weak compared to the new state of the game. Her bomb is also not very strong compared to other games, and while she's still the fastest shot type, the speed is meaningless without any other strengths to go with it.
    • Many cards are mostly ignored because they offer very little benefit, are outclassed by better cards or are more trouble than they're worth. These include Lily, Aya, Cirno, Utsuho, Reimu's homing amulet card, Sanae's frog card, among others.
  • Older Than They Think: This isn't the first time a danmaku game unlocks new skills by purchasing items. Len'en had done it back in 2015 with Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle, predating it by 6 years.
  • That One Boss: View the series' page here.
  • Viewer Pronunciation Confusion: "Mike" would be pronounced more like "Me-kay" as opposed to the English "Mike".
