YMMV / Thunder and the House of Magic

Go To

  • Popular with Furries: Thunder's cute design and the fact he's an orange tabby kitten make him accessible to furries.
  • The Scrappy: Jack and Maggie. Jack's disdain towards Thunder may be understandable, given he's trying to protect Maggie. But it overstays its welcome to the point of prejudice, where both the mouse nor the old rabbit refuse to recognize Thunder's intentions are sincere, not to mention their jealousy towards him clouds their judgement. When their machinations to get Thunder kicked out results in their owner Mr. Lawrence injured, they blame Thunder for it instead of admitting that they let their jealousy get the better of them.
  • So Okay, It's Average: General consensus on the film: forgettable plot, excellent animation
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Jack and Maggie most certainly. First off, they force poor Thunder out of the house during a rainstorm, then they threaten him to make him leave. Once he's adopted by Lawrence, Jack gets jealous after the magic show where Thunder is a bigger hit with the kids. They try to scare Thunder away by poking him with a needle, which inadvertently causes Lawrence to be sent to the hospital, then they have the gall to blame THUNDER for all this, and then once the robots and the Love birds side with Thunder, they call their own friends "losers", even though at that point, Thunder was taking better initiative than them in trying to scare off Daniel. To top it all off, even after Thunder is successfully stopping Daniel, they AIM A FIRECRACKER RIGHT AT HIM, which could have been fatal to Thunder. Even though Maggie does gain some Character Development during the climax and apologize to Thunder, most agree that her and Jack suffered Karma Houdini due to getting off scot free for their rude and outright violent behaviour towards Thunder, especially since poor Thunder never did anything to deserve it.
