  • Awesome Music: Reality Subtext aside, "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is a damn good song that deserves to be as popular as it is.
    • "Lucky Man" counts as well. Just listen to that intro. Damn.
    • "This Is Music" is also counts as a very stellar tune. It's a perfect marriage of Nick's hypnotizing guitar playing and Richard's commanding vocals. Argumentatively, one could say it deserved at least half of the love "Bitter Sweet" got.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: "Bitter Sweet Symphony". Their big hit ended in the exact same way when they lost all royalties to the song, which they fortunately got back in 2019.
  • Sampled Up: Most people who were growing up in the 90's or later will associate the string melody from "Bitter Sweet Symphony" with this song more than with "The Last Time".
  • Seasonal Rot: Ashcroft's solo career. With the exception of his debut album Alone with Everybody, his following albums have been met with mixed reception from critics.
  • Signature Song: Easily "Bitter Sweet Symphony".
  • Tear Jerker: "On Your Own", "History", and "The Drugs Don't Work".
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: You will find some fans who say this about Urban Hymns (even Nick thinks it "just sits nicely next to the Oasis record" and "it's okay as far as pop goes"), or A Northern Soul, but most of them reserve this for Ashcroft's solo career.
