YMMV / The Mirror Has Two Faces

  • Award Snub: A variation. Everyone was expecting Lauren Bacall to win an Oscar for this otherwise unremarkable movie, as she was a Hollywood institution who had never even been nominated before. She didn't win, to the shock of many, but did get an Honorary Oscar in 2009.
  • Hollywood Homely: Rose, given that she's merely a dressed down Barbra Streisand and merely looks to be wearing a medium dress size even with all the Sno Balls she eats. Gregory does admit that he finds her beautiful in an unconventional way.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Eli Roth appears as one of Rose's students, although only as an extra.
  • Unnecessary Makeover: Rose actually looks quite cute in her baggy clothes and low maintenance hairstyle, and so the makeover she gets in the third act doesn't really seem to warrant all the shocked statements about how much better she looks. Arguably this could be the Intended Audience Reaction, since Rose is annoyed at the dieting required, and Gregory seems to prefer her before look, even saying "good" when she jokes about gaining weight at the end.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: After her argument with Gregory, Rose refuses to return his phone calls for three months, specifically to teach him a lesson and shock him with her new look. Considering he was her husband and she was building up to telling him she wanted to break up, giving him the silent treatment for three months while still expecting him to turn up at their house once his tour of Europe was over could be read as very manipulative.
