- Awesome Art: The backgrounds look amazing.
- Ethnic Scrappy: The ethnic stereotypes in this film are all different levels of grating. Stormy is grating to an extent, although she's confident at haggling and, for a girl her size, can ride a full-grown horse bareback.
- Padding: Lots of padding and focusing more on the animals than the actual plot. Justin doesn't even get his mission until the movie is two thirds of the way over.
- Retroactive Recognition: Animator Don Morgan made his debut working in this film.
- Trapped by Mountain Lions: A majority of the film is taken up by the animals' antics. At one point, the horses' newly born child is literally trapped by a mountain lion.
- Unintentional Uncanny Valley: The fact that Eagle is drawn more realistically than the rest of the cast makes him look unnatural.
