- Ensemble Dark Horse: Won's two guards, Jin Gwan and Jang Ui. Their amusing interactions and Jin Gwan's love for Wang Dan make them popular among viewers.
- Jerkass Woobie: The queen is cruel and manipulative, and arranges for Dan to be sent to Yuan just to hurt Rin and Won. But her backstory makes her marginally more sympathetic. When she was a teenager she was sent away from her home and married to a man much older than her. Ever since she's been trapped in an unhappy marriage, forced to watch her husband cheat on her, insult her, and humiliate their son.
