• Epileptic Trees: A few fans of this book wonder whether the being that follows the main character is actually the Wendigo from Pet Sematary, if not the same, or at least a creature of the same species or a related kind of being.
• Unintentional Period Piece:
  • Due to the fact that Tom Gordon was, at the time, the closer for the Boston Red Sox. Ironically, he would leave the Red Sox in 1999, the year of the book's publication.
  • Nearly every reference places it specifically in early 1998: Hanson, Spice Girls, "Tubthumping", Titanic, Flubber, and so on.
