YMMV / The Closure

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Near the end of the game, Gordon is teleported to the Seven Hour War by Breen. After using a teleporter to send himself back to the present, no events seem to have changed.
    • At the beginning of the mod, a warp cannon appears out of the ceiling and warps Gordon into a space station, where the mod author himself explains the choice between more or less enemies and the puzzle hints. Afterwards, Gordon is sent back and the mod goes on like nothing happened.
  • Broken Base: The mod faced harsh criticism from some parts of the fandom upon release for several reasons, some of them being the misleading title (Half-Life 2: Episode Three - The Closure) designed to attract publicity, bizarre choices of textures and models which clash with the established art-style, lackluster story, etc. Others are more charitable, citing The Closure as a decent fan-made single-player campaign made by a single mapper, even if it doesn't meet the expectations of a proper third episode.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The ending narration mispronounces Black Mesa as "Black Messah" at one point. Two years later, we got another infamous Half-Life 2 mod that has the G-Man's voice actor do the exact same misspelling of Black Mesa, twice.
  • That One Boss: The Combine helicopter on Map 27 is a major pain in the ass, because it takes about 30 rockets to take down (mind you, the Combine helicopter was never designed to be fought with rockets to begin with) and the fight takes place on an attic with little to no cover.
