YMMV / The Artful Escape

Go To

  • Broken Aesop: For a game with a message about expressing yourself creatively and not conforming yourself to others' expectations, it sure doesn't give you a lot of freedom to do what you want.
  • Hype Backlash: A small but vocal minority not only dislike this game, but thoroughly loathe it.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: A common criticism is that the gameplay is so simplistic it barely even counts as that, boiling down to walking to the right and occasionally jumping, with almost no challenge at all.
  • Quirky Work: HOLY BALLS. The Artful Escape is pure psychedelia, with absolutely no restraint on anything, and so the designs and setting of the game simply defy description. A pan-dimensional music tour to some of the most whacked-out places in the universe is one of the most grounded events in the entire game.
  • Self-Imposed Challenge: Francis can play the guitar while running and jumping, so players can have him play the guitar constantly to make the scenery react while also making all of his jumps cool as he strums and ollies at the same time.
