- Breakaway Pop Hit: Billy Idol's "Cradle of Love" was a #2 hit that received heavy airplay on MTV and, while not as famous as his other songs, is still better-remembered than this film it was on the soundtrack for.note
- Designated Hero: A good number of viewers found Ford to be too much of a thoroughly nasty human being to be the hero of the film.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Ford's secretary Jazz became perhaps the most well-liked character from the film among the audience, just by virtue of not being a thoroughly nasty human being, to the point that some expressed dismay when it appeared that she was going to get killed off (she doesn't).
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The movie had unusually successful video sales in Norway, Hungary, and Spain, with the latter two helped by borderline Gag Dubs with a comedian as Ford.
- Moral Event Horizon: Lynching the koala bear from a ceiling fan. Zuzu Petals sure thinks so, anyway.
- Rooting for the Empire: A good number of viewers hated Ford to such an extent that they wanted Grendel and his minions to blow him out of his socks.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: This could be a significant factor in the film's critical and commercial failure. Many viewers, including Roger Ebert, felt that Ford was a thoroughly nasty human being, with the rest of the cast, villain or not, faring little better.
