YMMV / That'll Teach 'Em

  • Base-Breaking Character: Miss Gibson. Her Hair-Trigger Temper is either funny or irritating.
  • Chewing the Scenery: Mr Stanley's outburst directed at Scott Peters during a rehearsal for their end of term musical in Season 3:
Get that smirk off your face, Peters, because you're the top person on my list. Stand up straight, sit down. Sit down there, you too. Come here. (raises his tone) Come here. (more stern) Come here. (shouts louder) COME HERE!!! COME HERE NOW!!! (snatches book and throws it to the floor in a fit of rage) COME HERE NOW!!! GET THERE, YOU STUPID LITTLE BOY! (starts yelling straight into Peters' face) YOU STUPID, INSOLENT, SILLY LITTLE THING!!! GET OUT!!! (escorts Peters outside)
Keep running around this tree! Keep running around this tree! GO, GO, GO, GO, you failing little twit! (heads back inside and starts lecturing the boys en masse) We are trying to teach you the music for Gilbert & Sullivan's Mikado, and all you can do is disrupt, laugh, be pathetic! We've already had Anidugbe sent out, we now have Peters running around a tree. Stand up.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Mr. Warr's rant directed at Amy. Unlike Mr. Perry's speech to Joe McCready as he was expelled, and even Warr's later speech to Scott Peters upon his expulsion, Warr's anger feels more raw, as while he still has some faith that Peters can be turned around, he now believes Amy to be a lost cause:
Mr. Warr: [calmly] I understand you wish to leave the school?
    Amy: Yes, Sir.
Mr. Warr: [starts shouting] Well, PROBABLY JUST AS WELL! I am VERY angry with you; I have found you to be an insolent girl! Your performance with Dr. Szydlo was unacceptable! YOU HAVE FAILED-TO REACH THE STANDARDS-THAT I HAVE SET IN THIS SCHOOL! And if you wish to leave my school, Amy, you may do so with my BLESSING! Do you understand?!
    Amy: Yes, Sir.
Mr. Warr: [slams fist down on desk] LEAVE MY STUDY, AND LEAVE THE SCHOOL!!!
    • Warr's later comments after Amy leaves show how little faith he had in her:
Mr. Warr: She just proved herself to be a very weak, self-obsessed girl of...little value to this school. Things have changed remarkably since the 1950s. In 2005, that sort of behaviour is pretty much accepted. There's very little teachers can do, and so children are getting away with more, and more and more.

  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Scott Peters. While he's the naughtiest child on the show, whose behavior led to his eventual expulsion, he tries his hardest to be good but he had bad days and was unable to cope, resulting in his signature naughtiness. When this is taken into consideration, it's hard not to feel bad for him when he gets expelled.
    • Victoria Buxton. She's one of the naughtiest students in the school. She disobeyed the teachers, refused to listen and got the other kids in trouble. She was also in love with Scott Peters, the biggest troublemaker in the school. Peters was eventually expelled, and it's hard not to feel bad for Vikki when this happens.
  • The Woobie:
    • Dr. Szydlo. He isn't mean or aggressive at all, yet many of the girls tease him.
    • Rosie Morton. She was clearly distressed by the poor sanitation in the school and left early because she couldn't cope.
