  • Accidental Aesop:
    • If you plan to marry someone solely for their money — then do not, under any circumstances, mistreat anyone for their perceived "lowly" status... as it will always, without exception, end badly for you.
    • Before agreeing to marriage, be sure to have your spouse sign a contract pledging the following things to you: I will never cheat on you, I will never physically or emotionally abuse you, I will never act as the head of our relationship, I will never insist that you obey me without question, I will never characterize you speaking up to defend yourself as "talking back", I will never act as if you are nothing without me, I will never act as if I did you a favour by marrying you, I will never disregard your feelings should you inform me that that my mother or some relative is mistreating you, I will never leave you should you become disabled, and I am most definitely marrying you because I love you just the way you are.
  • Broken Base:
    • While some have criticized the channel for their lack of portrayal of same-sex relationships — others contend that it might be for the best, since most of these relationships end up turning sour anyway.
    • There is some major controversy regarding whether one should attend someone's wedding if only one of the wedding partners want them there, and the other definitively does not want them there. While most everyone have some degree of sympathy for the victim, who usually ends up being assaulted in some way — some will also contend that, even if the person having the wedding is a hateful prejudiced asshole, "no" still means "no".
  • Friendly Fandoms: Fans of text story channels such as this one are frequently also fans of Reddit story channels featuring posts and comments from popular subreddits such as r/AmItheAsshole, r/relationships, and r/relationship_advice.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The whistled "cuckoo" between text message conversations.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: The channel's detractors have accused it of copying stories from a fellow text channel Apple Texts.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Josh punching Heidi out has led to a lot of backlash in the comments. Heidi may have been a mean and spiteful antagonist, but many contend that domestic violence is unacceptable under any circumstances.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • While the attitude is always portrayed as being wrong — the commonly expressed view that, when a woman marries a man, she also "marries" the rest of his family was a traditional Japanese view that is being challenged by younger generations. This can be off-putting to Western audiences who wonder why the female protagonist didn't just tell her domineering mother-in-law to "fuck off" from the get-go.
    • For that matter, the long-standing passiveness in the face of abuse was an unfortunate side effect of the Japanese culture's emphasis on "politeness" and "pacifism". While abuse is always portrayed as being wrong, Western audiences are often dismayed by just how long it takes for the protagonist to finally stand up to their abuser.
    • The casual disownment of children by parents is a frequent trope that occurs and is often off-putting to Western audiences. Even if your children turn out to be abusive or bigoted assholes, it's not a decision that Western parents usually make lightly — at least not without heavy angsting of where they went wrong as both a parent and a person, that someone they raised would turn out to be that way.
