  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Kabuki Danjuro, to the point that he has been the star of three games, possibly due to his personality.
  • Once Original, Now Common: Oh boy, this trope hit the franchise hard, possibly even more than Sakura Wars. When the first game was released in 1989, during the NES' heyday, seeing a game with almost fully-voiced dialogue in an era where voice acting was usually limited to short voice samples, especially one on such a grand scale as an RPG, was unheard of and completely revolutionary at the time, which is why the series became the Killer App for the PC Engine CD in Japan. Today, with the partial exception of Namida, those same games look really dated and nothing special in an era where voiced dialogue and cinematic cutscenes have pretty much become standard.
