YMMV / Swordsmen

Go To

YMMV for the movie Swordsmen:

  • Narm:
    • The Master getting Tang Long out of his nerves by force-feeding beans to his son. The scene itself is just awkward.
    • The 72 Demons's reaction, or rather lack thereof, to Baijiu trying to resurrect Tang Long while they are running his funeral. They are apparently unfazed that someone is punching their loved leader's corpse.
  • Spiritual Successor: Director Peter Chan cited the 1967 movie One-Armed Swordsman as a major inspiration, and he and Donnie Yen decided to indirectly reference that movie in this one.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: Largely a remake of A History of Violence.

YMMV for the fanfiction Swordsmen:

  • Heartwarming Moments: In the prequel A Life Lived, after Kenshin comes to realize he's an Immortal, he's greatly worried about how his friends will react. Turns out, though, that their responses are varying degrees of positive acceptance—Sano outright embraces Kenshin, Megumi chooses to prefer that she "made a mistake" in initially declaring him dead, Saito muses that this at least explains a few things he observed of Kenshin during the Bakumatsu, Yahiko declares that he always knew Kenshin was beyond human anyway, and Kaoru's more angry that Kenshin was planning to leave without saying goodbye (and she lets him know that there's no way she could ever be scared of him).
