YMMV / Star Trek: Prodigy S1E6 "Kobayashi"

Go To

  • Canon Discontinuity: The Kobayashi Maru training scenario has been updated to be a holodeck program, which is sensible, but its setting is all over the place and makes no sense within the time period. As seen in a prior depiction, the cadet is supposed to be commanding the current flagship, yet the simulation uses the Galaxy-class NCC-1701-D Enterprise instead of the current Sovereign-class NCC-1701-E. At the time the USS Protostar was commissioned, the Enterprise-D had been destroyed. Furthermore, in this time period, the Klingons are still the allies of the United Federation of Planets and there is no neutral zone existing between the Klingon Empire and the UFP, whereas it does still exist for the Romulans, who aren't yet allies of the Federation, though they certainly aren't as hostile as they once were.note
  • Narm Charm: As noted in Special Effects Failure, it's easy to hear difference in the older audio used to portray Spock, Odo, Uhura, and Scotty compared to the newly recorded dialogue for Dal and Crusher. That doesn't make this mixed gathering of characters less awesome (especially if this grouping of characters is some fans' "Dream Team"). In addition, the artistic quality makes up for the technical quality, with writer Aaron J. Waltke reading about 90 teleplays and rewatching 40 episodes from across the franchise to make new performances.
  • Special Effects Failure: The archival audio clips are of noticeably lower quality than the rest of the vocal recordings. They also don't always match what's depicted on-screen — Holo-Odo reports two Klingon ships when there are actually three, and Holo-Spock says "We're surrounded" when all three ships are lined up in front of the Enterprise.
