YMMV / Star Trek: Picard S3E06 "The Bounty"

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Season Three co-composer Stephen Barton's "Legacies", which plays during the Fleet Museum montage and blends Alexander Courage, Dennis McCarthy, Jerry Goldsmith, and Laurence Rosenthal's themes from TOS, DS9, VOY, and TVH.
  • Out-of-Character Alert:
    • Starfleet has changed a lot since the days of TOS' 'White Hat' good guy hopefulness, TNG's dignified confidence in the superiority of ethical probity, and even DS9's wartime struggle to maintain moral codes, but the sight of a Starfleet Security officer beating the pulp out of a decorated Starfleet Captain without a single raised eyebrow from the redshirts guarding the door... that's surprising.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: While he was happy to return to Star Trek, Daniel Davis himself was disappointed that as Moriarty, he didn't get to interact with Patrick Stewart as Picard and LeVar Burton as Geordi, since Moriarty's history was most intertwined with them (Geordi inadvertently gave him sentience in "Elementary, Dear Data", Picard foiled his plans during his last appearance in "Ship In A Bottle").
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Moriarty, albeit more in the context of the Season Three pre-release marketing campaign than the actual episode. The Professor's cameo in the initial Season Three trailer was arguably even more of a surprise than Lore's return. Justified, as confirmation of Brent Spiner's role in the final Season (and hints from Terry Matalas) meant many had correctly guessed Spiner might be playing Lore again. But even with how many TNG secondary characters have popped up in the preceding two seasons, few people (if any) were actually expecting Moriarty to return after a 30-year absence (especially after "Ship in a Bottle" had essentially closed out his story).
    • The return of Data and B-4 (and Altan Soong) as part of the Data Golem. In comparison to the rest of the TNG cast, Season Three's pre-release marketing campaign was very judicious with its usage of footage and audio of Brent Spiner. The campaign and Terry Matalas also emphasized Spiner would be playing a new version of Lore. While that was technically true, we know now it was also misdirection to conceal that Lore was actually part of this new Data Golem — and that Data and B-4's personalities and memories had likewise been salvaged and integrated with their older, irresponsible brother.
